News: Link to Biogen Investor Call February 7th, 2005

Tysabri (Antegren or Natalizumab) BiogenIdec (co-marketer of Tysabri, along with Elan) will be hosting their quarterly investor conference call at 5pm EDT on February 7th, 2005. This call will be broadcast live at the link that follows. This will be the first investor call since the release of Tysabri, and the new MS therapy is bound to be a hot topic of conversation.

Biogen will most likely not discuss anything related to the 2 year studies or EDSS data, etc. but SHOULD give some indication of how many people are now on Tysabri, what issues they have encountered with the drug launch, etc.

If you can't listen live, an archive will be made available.

Please click "read more" for the link to the broadcast.

Note:

What we heard (unofficial):

  • Very strong demand for Tysabri from patients and neurologists
  • Tysabri to be a blockbuster drug
  • There are 2 or 3000 patients infused thus far
  • Insurance companies have not been a problem
  • Approximately 2000 individual Neurologists have prescribed Tysabri
  • Most of the patients currently infused are MS'ers who need more therapy or are fed up with current therapy
  • There is a stronger demand for combination therapy than they anticipated with the bulk of the demand being for Avonex.
  • They are on schedule to complete two year portion of both phase III trials and report to the US FDA as planned.
  • Release of the 2 year AFFIRM (Tysabri alone) data at the April meeting of the American Academy of Neurology
  • Release of the 2 year SENTINEL (Tysabri plus Avonex) data to follow sometimes prior to September.
  • European approval news should be sometime in the later half of the year.
