Research: New Theory: Myelin loss causes Alzheimers (and MS)

Other AutoImmune DiseasesVery interesting new theory about how demyelination could possibly be the root of Alzheimers. This also gives some insight into how the statin (cholesterol-lowering) drugs might prove beneficial to MS patients.

Professor Bartzokis said it might be possible to limit myelin breakdown during middle age by taking cholesterol-lowering drugs, anti-inflammatory medications, or by improving diet and exercise. "
