News: 2nd Patient on Tysabri/Avonex Combo Confirmed with PML

[UPDATE] After original stories said he had passed away, word on the wire is that this patient is now still alive and that the change in status is limited to going from "suspected PML" to "confirmed PML"... Let's hope that that is the case. Thank you Daunted for pointing us to the update.[/UPDATE]

When Tysabri was suspended earlier this week, it was due to the death of one patient from progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), as well as one additional case of a sick trailist with suspected PML.

Now, sad news... According to the Associated Press, Elan and Biogen announced today that this second patient has passed away with a definitive diagnosis of PML. [See Update-- the patient is still alive]

Our hearts and prayers are with these pioneers' loved ones.

This story has been retracted per some other sources. PML has been confirmed but the subject is alive.

Didnt someone post that PML is always fatal. So confirmed PML aint better than suspected.
