I have noticed that more and more "doctors" seem to be posting on this site. I just ask, without really knowing any of them, that everyone please beware of what they are "indirectly" selling. Maybe it is just my skeptical side coming out but I just do not trust docs that come onto social network sites to seemingly interact with "patients". This is not a direct attack on anyone nor do I have some insight I am not sharing I am just throwing it out there!

If you throw enough out there... eventually something has to stick, right?

Damnit, now you tell me! I just bought a set of Ginsu knives from Dr. Sclafani. Should I return them? Please advise.

I am only aware of two doctors here--Dr Sclafani and Dr Flanagan--and both were invited by members of TIMS to start a thread here.
And both are warmly welcomed, and have much to offer us. We should indeed be grateful for their willingness to post here and spend time answering our questions.
If you feel you can't figure out the charlatans from the good guys, just stop reading the threads that irk you--no need to warn us, we are clearly all pretty savvy.

Thank you scorpion for this very very important advice. I'm really glad that we have you here, otherwise we would run blindly into the huge amount of spammers and salesmen in here and would buy just anything they want us to. You know, the average TIMS user is so unfamiliar with forums and internet communication that they just can't distinguish advertising from user posts. I for one asked myself again and again why the newest topics in the left column always stay the same while the ones to the right are constantly changing. Recently I found out that those on the left are google ads, whatever this may be. In addition, I think your guidance is really really needed because most TIMS users are dumb enough to not educate themselves before making any decision and do whatever they are told, and the doctors who post here tell people to go for treatment so constantly! I read this so often that I now want a liberation treatment myself despite the fact that I don't have MS!

And it's such a stupid thing to take the opportunity to talk to specialists when they show up here. Because it might happen that your questions are answered. This just takes the fun out of it, riddling over questions with other patients only and guessing about second-hand information is so much more fun!

So again thank you very much for chaperoning us!

Yes I know people with MS are great at educating themselves and bla bla bla but I just thought I would pass this along to anyone interested. Thanks for the response. It was a real side slapper.

TIMS members, some of the posts on this thread are in line, and some are decidedly not.

extrapolating shye's comment, *all* of us are free to ignore posts we do not like.

Jimmylegs,

Will the doctors on board ignore these posts??

I can ignore them but I really worry about the possibility of the doctors leaving the board because of posts like scorpion's

I mean the initial post is very disrespectful toward those doctors.

Nope just one of the members of Thisisms stating how I feel. Actually I am a social worker and what psychology 101 taught me is that anger originates from fear. The question I pose is what do I and some of the other skeptics post that frightens some people? Is it because deep down you know we have some valid points and it scares you? Very few people on this board, me included, have disregarded CCSVI. Skeptical posts, by people who are confident in their beliefs, should be looked at as engaging not enraging.

Fernando will people who are newly diagnosed that come here for information about MS ignore posts telling them to avoid MS medications, that MS is not autoimmune but vascular, and to avoid the MS Society? Those are not my opinions but I would not ask that they not be posted. Come on, you guys name certain people in the MS research community and talk about them as though they are not humans yet you are are afraid I am going to hurt someones feelings? It would seem my post is in line with other posts on this forum calling for caution to be used when getting information from the medical community. Geeeesh

I think scorpion makes a good point and it's one that I already tried to make.

Despite Fernando's bid for censorship it's debatable whether thisisms could be considered "unbiased" while allowing people in authority to hawk the (supposed) merits of CCSVI here.

Questioning in itself isn't disrespectful.

Scorpion--
No one is afraid of you. Post on, but realize that what cah jokingly points out is truth...many people on this board are interested in exploring all of the research going on in MS--not just the pharmacological studies sponsored by MS Societies
http://www.nationalmssociety.org/fast-f ... index.aspx

Please, continue to be a skeptic. Your point about doctors appearing on this forum has been a bit disconcerting to a few of us...but many people on here like the back and forth with real live experts (not just pretend ones like you and me) so let's live and let live. And your bark is worse than your bite...or sting, or whatever.
xo,
cheer

I understand what you are saying about people being interested in research that looks "outside the box" but those ideas should be as open to scrutiny as the "MS Society" research. While my comment about some of the doctors on this board may have been disconcerting to some the comments some of them have made have been disconcerting to me but your comment did make me think and I will stick to questioning their ideas instead of their motives. Geeze I have no bite or sting just thoughts and ideas!
