Location: SOUTHERN ONTARIO, CANADA
:? HELLO TRIAL WATCHERS! I JUST RECEIVED A CALL TODAY TELLING ME THAT I WAS CHOSEN FOR THE "CCSVI STUDY TRIALS". ONLY 100 OUT OF 230 MAC. M.S. PATIENTS WERE ENTERED INTO A LOTTERY AND CONSIDERED FOR THIS STUDY. IT IS FOR THE TESTING ONLY!? THEY STATED THAT THEY HOPED THAT THE RESULTS WOULD BE COMPLETED BY FEB., 2011. I GUESS IF THE MEDICAL STAFF PERFORMING THIS STUDY FEEL THERE IS ENOUGH DATA TO PROCEED WITH ANOTHER STUDY TO DO THE ACTUAL TREATMENT, I WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THAT??? MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT I AM ON THE NY. WAITING LIST TO HAVE THE TREATMENT DONE SOMETIME IN 2011. I AM IN FAIRLY BAD SHAPE RIGHT NOW AND TO WAIT FOR MAC. TO ACTUALLY DO THE PROCEDURE COULD BE QUITE SOME TIME DOWN THE ROAD!? SO ON ONE HAND, I FEEL VERY BLESSED ABOUT BEING CHOSEN, BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, FEEL CONFLICTED ABOUT HAVING THE TREATMENT DONE IN NY.???

That's fabulous news for you Issy. The MacMaster/St Joseph's study is a critical part of Dr. Mark Hacke's research. Many Canadians would love to be part of what we think will be a ground-breaking study. Dr. Haake is really on the leading edge of CCSVI.

When did you put your name on the list for Albany? The waiting period seems to be quite long for Canadians, who will be treated at the outpatient clinic.

I think it is very unlikely MacMaster will have approval to do treatment or even treatment trials any time soon (although I would love to be wrong about that!) Dr. Sandy McDonald in Barrie has done hundreds of Doppler ultrasounds and has been waiting months for approval and funding of a clinical trial.

So, for now just go ahead with the MacMaster study and see where it goes from there. You can make a decision about Albany when you are called by them.
