Welcome to TIMS and I hope you haven't already departed.

Marie Rhoads, the author of the book, CCSVI as the Cause of MS: The Science Behind the Controversial Theory, is indeed a long time and well respected (at least by some of us) member of the TIMS community. I for one appreciated having more information about her book.

My personal interpretation of the TIMS policy re: advertising is that you did not break the rule.

You liked the fact a book on CCSVI was being published and you told us more about it. That seems to me to be well within the rules.

Those rules also state:

I anxiously await the opportunity to read the book. Marie is quite knowledgeable about MS and has always contributed her expertise to TIMS.

Seriously, I do want the rules of the board enforced on this forum and hopefully I've just explained why I personally do not think that rule applies in this situation.

So we can understand why your imagination is so confounded, please also answer the question:

Scorpion Again, I respectfully disagree. I think insinuating (I know it wasn't you Scorp) that TIMS members who are interested in supporting CCSVI information and research are reminiscent of "Jim Jones" is very, very mean spirited. That's a lot of us.

I agree with Cheer, It's another sad, new low point for TIMS. The anger and rage I feel is beyond description. Nor is it good for my MS. That's why I think good people abandon the site, feeling hopeless and helpless. We've been through it a lot.

Agreed. Moreover, many people have made book recommendations on the Reading Nook forum. These also do not qualify as advertising.

IMHO Michael needs to provide some information regarding his financial involvement or lack thereof with respect to this book in particular, and CCSVI treatment in general.

I agree that book reviews by financially disinterested parties should be welcomed.

I also agree that there is a marked advertising flavour to some of the posts, including the near-daily updates which don't contain much discussion with other forum participants.

Other posts by Mr Hannan have promoted medical tourism entities, the first of which was removed as advertising:

Disclaimer: if anybody can figure out a way for me to grab some of those big CCVSI bucks, send me a PM. I feel left-out.

In my old home town newspaper, there was a film reviewer, who I used to read assiduously. I knew if he disliked something, it was not to be missed, and that the inverse would be just as true.

After many months of trying to sift out the chaff here, you may determine for yourself, that with certain by-lines, content will mostly be missing or slanted; that you are likely to disagree, without ever having to click on the topic. For some there may be a masochistic pleasure in clicking regardless. For others, these complaints may be the kind of reverse weather vane my reviewer used to be for me.

With regard to the book referred to here, I have advance ordered my copy from Amazon. I would note that the attention given it, by the so-called skeptics, will generate more sales than Mr. Hannan could, with praise or hear-ye. Mean-spiritedness can be a signpost, pointing away from where you are going.

Rejoice, Marie. You have been given high praise before your book is even shipping!

Except if you are J.K.Rowling, the book business will barely keep your kids in hockey skates.

He's probably just an admirer who thinks he might score a signed advance first edition. I don't feel threatened.
