I am here Cece. Healing. I talked with Deidre who had a vein patch on 1 jugular vein 6 weeks before my bypass surgery. We compared notes and we are both following the same path. She will be back in Tijuana on Monday to have her other jugular done. She is not looking forward to it as she now knows what to expect. She said the first month was great and the second was terrible. Now she is feeling better and improving again. Our tissues in our necks are very swollen. Feels like we are wearing a metal neck brace and it causes muscle contractions. I think because I had both sides done, it was a double whammy. I felt good for the first few weeks and not so good after that, but I am improving again. After looking up how long it takes for those to get back to normal after a heart bypass which I found out is 6-12 months. And for the leg where they took out the saphenous vein it takes 4-6 months. So I think it will take a year to see what this surgery has done for me. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr H and the staff and hospital. He has called me at least 6 times since coming home on March 6.

Sounds like you are (both) holding your own. Good healing!

Thanks for checking in. So glad you are in contact with Deidre who has been through this. Dr. H sounds like he's looking after you as best he can despite the distance. I wonder what follow-up appointments he would want you to have if you were a local patient of his with vein grafts like these.

Look at page 2 for a diagram on a jugular vein bypass.
