In Sept. 2010 I went for the CCSVI procedure expecting good results - there were none. In Nov. 2010 went for my first NUCCA treatment and didn't know what to expect - WOW results. Most people that saw me after this treatment were like "you look different....did you cut your hair, lose weight?". I was definitely sitting straighter in my wheelchair. My back was touching the whole back of my chair. I don't think it was a placebo effect.

From your past posts DougL, I'm a little surprised from this type of response??

i only mentioned placebo and hokum to appease all the great neuroligists who have treated my wife for 30 years. don't want them to think they have wasted their whole career. sorry if my attempt at humor didn't work.

i was going to end my post by encouraging everyone to at least get checked by a NUCCA specialist. i was going to mention the very small costs ($350 for x-ray, $80 for consult, and $50 for first treatment) but i didn't want to come off sounding like i was a saleman for NUCCA.

i am now confident that the walking beneifts my wife received in Germany were due to moving neck bones and not a result of better blood flow.

Ahhhhhh.......no wonder my confusion from your post.........gotcha now. Would never have taken you as the "salesman type" - not my impression of you. A lot of us tho would recommend trying AO/NUCCA.

its all about quality of life.

You captured the whole thing here in these few words Doug.

Emma sees Dr Amir to treat a TMJ problem, which in turn (the TMJ issue) was creating an Atlas misalignment.

Since having the treatment, many symptoms that had previously been attributed to MS are being eradicated/relieved/reduced.

The problems/opponents only start to mount up when you suggest Nucca/AO/Jaw misalignment treats or Cures MS.

If it makes life better for Emma (and by association - Me) I'm interested. Anyone else can attach whatever label they want to whole thing.

adjustment #2.

doc said she is holding the adjustments very well.

wife claims (and i agree) - improved strength, balance and numbness. 4 days after treatment - better than before 1st treatment but not as good as day of treatment.

best news - no pain. all her lower back pain is gone. 5 minutes standing while washing dishes and the pain would be so bad that she was almost in tears.

another observation (happened both times now). after treatment, my wife spends most of the next day in bed.

same result as first adjustment - she walked into clinic with her cane, she walked out of clinic without it. doc should be paying her as a walking advertisement.

My hope for her is to dance in those heels.
Trying to find a nucca in winnipeg and not having much luck. Don't know how much it will help once the veins have been damaged.

I am so glad to hear such wondeful news for your wife and you.

i talked to doc here. he said there are none in Winterpeg but there should be some that do the Atlas. might be worth a try. he said results are the same, technique is different.

completed another visit with doc. good news again.

first, her Atlas is holding - she did not require any adjustment. all he did this time is the stimulating stuff on other parts of her back/hips

second, as we left the office she said (and I quote) "I feel exactly as i did when i left Germany". :-D

signs of improvement with pain and strength. numbness maybe a little bit - hope for more as time goes by.

MS (or whatever her condition is eventually called) has had free rein for many years. thanks to Dr S and now Dr R, she is finally able to fight back.

Thanks for asking about nucca in wpg. I thought I would have to try a different route. Took the second read to notice the winterpeg reference, that's all that's in the paper today. Alot of unhappy golfers this year.

I have done some traditional chinese medicines for circulation, seems the Dr thought my circulation needed some help. The pills did help, possibly too much given my reduced venous paths. Going to try again with a lower dose and see what happens, cupping helped as well.

So glad to hear of the improvements, keep them coming.

still seeing doc twice a week. had a really bad day on Monday.

like most pwMS, the high's are as bad or worse than the lows. my wife told me one of her biggest attacks ever was the day her Dad gave her a new car.

Monday was a very stressfull day but all was good. a very big high. we have been praying for this for a couple years now.

anyway, that afternoon and night she complained about how bad her legs were - heavy and numb. ironically, i noticed her walking was still better than before we started NUCCA.

had regular appointment on Tues and about 5 minutes in, she smiled so bright i had to get my shades. for all the caregivers out there you know there is nothing more precious than seeing your loved one smile as things get better

20 minute wait, $50, 3 adjustments in 15 minutes and she walked out saying - How come the MS Clinics and MS Society don't offer things like this?

she even makes me carry her cane now. :-D

one or two weeks before starting Atlas work, my wife had her first appointment at an MS Clinic in Toronto after many years in small town Canada. she was really excited to get to a big city clinic.

they did the standard timed 25 foot walk. she was allowed to use her cane as well as a railing on the wall. 15 seconds.

the purpose of this test was to evaluate her for Fampyra. my assumption is that they would re-evaluate after the one month trial period. a decrease in her timed walk would indicate a successful trial. they also have her booked for some neurological physio work. i forget what they called it but it didn't sound like your typical phyio-therapist after a car accident type of treatment. they talk things like Bioness. not too keen about this but we will see.

she has not started the drug yet because of the NUCCA Dr. she didn't want two treatments at once because she wouldn't know which was the cause of any benefits. we had booked the Dr before seeing MS Clinic and we both prefer the non-drug option first.

for fun, i measured out 25 feet and i asked her to walk it - no cane, no railing. using the very scientific "one steamboat, two steamboat" method - she completed it in 8 seconds. :-D

we still plan to try the Fampyra soon but i would say the NUCCA has been successful so far.

Get the physio - Emma started Neurophysio about 6 months ago - it turned out was pretty much a deep tissue sport massage.

We were having terrible trouble getting her seen often enough by the NHS official Neurophysio so we found a sports masseur locally. We're glad we did, it proved to be more effective than the Neuro treatment and has benefited Emma massively.

The bottom line is it's all about stimulating blood flow through atrophied muscle, then learning to use these muscles again as they were intended.
