Het Shannon

I am using your recipe for dinner tonight - don't get scallops here, so doing mussels for hubbie and prawns for myself - looking good! Thanks for that. Will report back tomorrow...

Avonex was ok - always react with bad muscle spasms, chills, and joint pain, but back on my feet again - usually takes about 24hrs to pass and I am getting used to it now after over a year...Sure wish they would hurry up and find something better though, especially something that would reverse existing disability! I know everone who reads this will second it...

Hi Ally,
I know that this won't help much with your side effects, but I wanted to share with you that I also experienced bad side effects for the first year. They started to taper off after about 1½ years and after 2 years became tolerable. Now at almost 8 years the side effects are more of an annoyance. I experience minimal side effects when I take my shot early in the day around 11 AM and then take 200 mg of ibuprofen about 3 hours later. A couple of cups of some caffeinated green tea the next day also helps with the general run down physical condition. I've kept a log of my injections all of these years and looking back it's pretty clear to see that one of my problems was that I would take multiple doses of ibuprofen leading up to my shot but maybe only one dose afterwards. I think that multiple doses afterwards would have really helped much better.

Hey NHE

Thanks for posting here - I know you have helped me a stack in the past with my Avonex side-effects. You are absolutley right, I take 400mg ibuprofen before my shot, then (funnily enough!) just take 200mg, 6hrly for 24hrs afterwards! I will bump my post-shot dose up and see if it helps - it is better since I stopped the combination meds, switched to the dose I mix myself, and started shooting up earlier - all your tips! I kind of thought that this was as good as it would get (being laid-up for 24 hrs instead of 48hrs), but my biggest problem is the increase in spasticity and muscle spasms, and the exhaustion/headache/feverish feeling. So I will definitely try changing my ibuprofen dosage, and will even talk to my neuro about bumping up my baclofen just on Sundays - might help the spasms, do you think? I sure hope it gets to the point where it is an annoyance, like with you - so I have something to aspire to!
Thanks again for your care and concern for a fellow Avonexer - your are always so on the ball with this.

If you are a fellow 'foodie', please chip in with some ideas - as I was saying on the other thread, I am so bored with cooking right now and need some inspiration - another person's routine supper can become my next experiment. Tried Shannon's idea last night, and I can say that the sauce works very well with both prawns and mussels - absolutely gorgeous.
Some more ideas folks, please....

I will also look & post.

Hi Ally,

I would try uping your post shot ibuprofen to 400 mg every 5 hours. You can take it with food so it's not too hard on your stomach.

I know next to nothing about baclofen. Your doctor will be a much better source of information. However, I don't know if you've been following all of the recent discussions on magnesium supplementation. That might be something for you to look into. You could always get a blood test to get your levels checked. For what it's worth, my legs get a little shaky but usually only when I get up after I've been sitting for a while. I'm trying to exercise more now, e.g., walking about 2 Km a day, so I hope that it helps.

Looks like a piece of sirloin that has been "butterflied" (cut down the middle almost the whole way, then opened up - usually done to either stuff the meat, or because it is too thick)!!! Don't have a clue otherwise...

Good luck, Lew - hope Shannon sends you an invit to one of his braais or cook-outs...

I'm not sure it's a sirloin from the thickness of the fat, but it sure is shaped like a typical one! I'm going to go with sirloin since aside from that piece of fat, that looks like a pretty lean cut.

Anyone have any vegetarian microwave recipes? I eat eggs and cheese, just no meat, fish, or chicken. I can't cook when I'm alone, due to epilepsy. I'd be happy to share some of my baking recipes when I'm feeling better, I love to experiment in the kitchen!
