That shit is crazy. I sent this to eveyone I know because we got about 4 hours of sustained winds from Ike. Just a taste if you will. About 60 mph w/ gusts to 80. About 3/4 of the Dayton area was w/out power for days. You should have heard the local radio shows. It was like armageddon to listen to. Maybe this will give them some perspective. I mean, don't get me wrong, it sucks to not have power for days, but all I really lost was the stuff in my 'fridge. Hardly on the same planet as what happened down your way.

It was kind of a phenomenon how it happened. After hurricanes, the winds are always absolutely howling way up in the air (I'm just repeating what the weather guy said, if I'm full of it, it's not mine) as far north as Canada. Well we had a real clear day; no big deal. Apparently the sun did something (see, I told you) and the winds dropped down; still no big deal, we usually get gusts. Well then a thick blanket of clouds rolled in and we had 60 mph sustained winds because the clouds 'held it down'. Well the poop hit the fan because we are used to tornadoes up here. They cut a narrow swath of destruction. Not this time. The entire area from Cincinnati to Dayton to Columbus got harangued with power outages because the trees and stuff that all went down was in a huge area; not just a sliver. Needless to say the power companies around here were not ready for it; nor could they have been. Well I finally called a radio show after hearing over and over "I know how they feel down there now." I called in and said "no you don't, we aren't losing family members, homes, businesses, we're just inconvenienced".

People down in Cincinnati were threatening the line workers! I saw two line workers by my house in a truck in a parking lot while going to get my kid. I pulled up and asked them if they wanted a cup of coffee! They were so tired, they didn't want to drive from North to South Dayton (maybe 40 minutes tops) because they'd basically been working about 18 and passing out for 6. And there were people threatening them! Unbelievable.
