Hi Everyone,

I've been working with a few patients who have many overlapping symptoms with other conditions (sound familiar?) and a few of them have "almost" epilepsy presentations. We are considering the ketogenic diet, or the new "medical food" Axona.

Is anyone familiar with it?

There are so many times that it seems my body and brain just hit a wall, and they don't rejuvenate with food, as would be normal. I'm not diabetic, but I do have brain atrophy, and am considering the potential benefits of "feeding my brain" with ketones instead of glucose. (Currently, Axona is used for Alzheimer's.)

I'm just curious if anyone has already "been there, done that".

Thanks so much!
:D

Hi Dr. Diana :)

A search of TIMS (using the search function at the top of most pages) of "ketogenic" returned 16 results. Here are a few of them to get you started. :)

Dr. Diana, you're doing great as a newcomer :!:

I forgot to mention not to use the search function on the left under "Modules." I can't remember why it shouldn't be used, though, lol.

Oh my... I just remembered the most important part of searching at TIMS!
Always switch the default of the "DISPLAY RESULTS AS" function FROM "Topics" TO "Posts" before submitting your search request. Otherwise, using the default "Topics" will return threads in which the searched-for item appear which means the entire thread must be scanned -- and some threads, as you know can be many pages long.

I hope you're having fun getting to know us and TIMS :D

Thank you, again, for holding my hand on "searches", HappyPoet!

GUESS WHO got some samples of Axona from her neuro today (which provides ketones to the brain without having to go on the ketogenic diet and is being used in Alzheimer's?).

Why, I believe that would be ME! Yea!

I'm excited to try it. It looks like ketogenic diets were kicked around for a while on TIMS, then basically kicked out (who wants to eat a pound of butter everyday? No one?!).

Axona may be an interesting work around. Because I called a giraffe a CAMEL yesterday (and then a zebra. Dang it. I just couldn't find the word. "Aphasia"), I think I'll start tonight while I still have (hopefully) 2 brains cells to rub together.

I'll let you all know how it goes, OK?

<3 from the guinea pig,
Ha
