I'm all in favor of doing large clinical trials -- really I am -- but why is it that suddenly all the crab makers seem to be doing REALLY big phase III trials of new formulations? I think you could do a satisfactory phase III trial with 500 participants. Drug companies complain about the expenses of trials, so wouldn't they prefer to have fewer participants? Are they trying to monopolize potential trial participants so they aren't available for competing trials?
