A small study found a significant effectivenes of pioglitazone (an approved diabetes typ-II drug) in protecting grey matter and a positive trend towards lower lesion load:

Thanks for posting the abstract Frank. As I mentioned in the pipeline thread, I'm still not putting this back on the list as I'm not convinced they are going to get the funding to do another trial with this. I hope to be proved spectacularly wrong, and soon.
