My first time posting. Hello to everyone. I have a form of MS called Devics. I was diagnosed in 04. I have had exacerbations because of the weather.

However, I pulled a muscle in my back and that triggered a setback. Never knew that can happen. What should I use for the pain I have in my sides, ice or heat? 8O

not sure on this one but i had a quick look at nutritional ideas for devic's. seen this yet?:

Gluten sensitivity and neuromyelitis optica: two case reports
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article ... p01028.pdf

my instinctive go-to as a common denominator for gluten sensitivity and neuromyelitis optica would be zinc status.

the poor iron status and lower hemoglobin was noted in that one case study so you could watch for that - i think if iron is down it's reasonable to expect zinc to be down too - i'll see if i can link you up to some info i had on that subject too if you like.

anyway if you're able to get some blood tests done there are some potential things to investigate. if you find anything's off the mark, you could figure out an action plan to correct an then see how you do :)

couldn't quickly find a study on zinc status in devic's patients but will keep looking another time. hope you are feeling better today.

Very very valuable info. Thank you so much. This is exactly whats going on with me. Are there any blogs out there for this condition specifically?

The gluten thing is another angle. I did not know so many foods had gluten in them. However, until this muscle pull I was o.k. and I was eating alot of foods that contained gluten.

hi there glad to help, but sorry i don't know of any blogs.

i don't think gluten and the muscle pull would be connected, particularly. more the devic's in general. i have to run but will be back later with a little more info.

there might be something else going on with the muscle (consider having a read about magnesium - not wrt to devic's necessarily, but wrt muscles and pain)

hth!
