We received this from Kevin the site owner off woofmang which is a stop smoking support group I joined when John and I Quit smoking in 2004. Normally I wouldn't post it but thought some people might like to check it out if they are Quitting Smoking. Hope this isn't considered peddling anything and no I can't be a participant as I Quit Aug of 2004 so don't meet the criteria.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i received an email today from a man whose company is doing a research project on smoking cessation; the company is based in the uk, but they're looking for people in canada and australia who meet certain criteria* and would be willing to participate in a three-hour interview/observation at home. there are financial incentives to participate, both for people participating in the study and for the woofmang dot com message boards:

on their website(s), they say that they, "...will pay at least CA$160 (AU$180) per household to people we interview. We will also pay CA$60 (AU$80) per person you can get us into contact with who fits the categories below* and we subsequently interview." if anyone from this site participates in the study, the above-mentioned finder's fee will come to me, and would be used to offset the costs of hosting and maintaining these message boards.

* the criteria - they're looking for people who have:
Stopped smoking cigarettes completely recently and are not using any type of therapy (i.e. hypnotherapy) or products (i.e. patches) to aid you.

Stopped smoking cigarettes completely recently and are using a non-nicotine replacement therapy (such as Hypnotherapy or Acupuncture).

Stopped smoking recently and are currently using nicotine replacement therapy products (such as gum, patches or inhaler etc.).

Stopped smoking but are currently smoking other things instead such as a pipe, cigars or ‘herbal’ cigarettes.
or are:
Currently cutting down the amount of cigarettes you are smoking with an aim to eventually quitting in the future.

Currently cutting down the amount of cigarettes you are smoking, with an aim to eventually quitting in the future, whilst also using nicotine replacement products (such as gum, patches or inhaler etc.).

if you're interested, and you live in either canada or australia, please visit the appropriate country-specific site from the following urls to get more information:

www.smokingresearchcanada.com

www.smokingresearchaustralia.com

they'll be conducting the interviews in early march, so please visit the appropriate website soon if you'd like to participate. and don't forget to tell them that "woofmang" sent you...
