Can't speak for Australia but I can for Canada. Back in the early 90's, my wife (MS patient) and I took out a joint life insurance policy whereby if one of us died, the insurance paid the survivor. Our agent told us that the numbers showed that people with MS generally lived only a few years less than the average. Because of the MS, any benefit resulting from the death of my wife during the first two years of the policy would be reduced. But after that time, normal policy rules would take over.

My wife passed away in 2007 and the policy paid out based on our premium.

Since Australia and Canada have very similar cultural, political and overall lifestyles, I would imagine that similar policies would be available down under. Contact a life insurance agent and you will be given all the options.

Harry
