Finn,
Harry
I couldn't agree more with your above statement. It pretty well summarizes how the established MS world of medicine operates. But like you said, it isn't surprising to have Reingold and McFarland take such a stance. The financial ramifications from Prineas and Barnett being correct in their theory would be staggering.finn wrote:Stephen Reingold of the NMSS and Henry McFarland of the NIH have both dismissed Barnett and Prineas’ work on the grounds that the disease modifying therapies work. To dismiss valid experimental data because it is inconvenient to your fondly held theories is bad science, although not surprising. The autoimmune theory of multiple sclerosis is the bedrock of many researchers livelihoods, EAE is not so much a disease, more of an industry and anti-inflammatory treatments such as the interferons are multi-million dollar products.

Re: Opinion about MS research and NMSS
Very interesting post, finn. I'd be interested to know if there are any articles that present the autoimmune theory side-by-side with its opposition. I'd also be interested to see some actual proof that the NMSS and the NIH have "dismissed" Barnett and Prineas's work. Harry does a lot of kicking and screaming and arm-waving, but it would be good to have a more sober and thorough assessment.finn wrote:Stephen Reingold of the NMSS and Henry McFarland of the NIH have both dismissed Barnett and Prineas’ work on the grounds that the disease modifying therapies work.
