If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

GeNeuro, Servier partner to develop drug for causal factor of multiple sclerosis

Switzerland-based GeNeuro has partnered with France-based Servier to develop and market GNbAC1 in Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

GNbAC1 is said to be the first drug being developed to address a causal factor of the disease, and holds the potential to radically change the way MS patients are treated...... Read More - http://www.ms-uk.org/emergingtherapies

I think this development helps the immune system to get up, and then to target the virus which is causal.

Well. When I graduated from college, nobody had even heard of a retrovirus. It doesn't surprise me that one is involved in "MS". It might turn out that a lot of so-called auto-immune disorders are visited on us by these critters. I hope these folks get what they're after, and that this stuff gets fast-tracked if possible. I might even have a few brain cells left by the time it arrives.

Anybody got any theories about MSRV vectors? Factors that improve your chances against it?

There are a few lifestyle changes I have made in the hopes of combating MSRV or more specifically EBV.

- Low saturated fat diet
- Eat a lot of berries
- Exercise, specifically resistance training/ power lifting
- Maintain low bodyfat %
- Vitamin D supplementation

For these reasons

EBV requires saturated fat to replicate in the Lytic Cycle.
Valproic acid found in berries inhibits the spread of EBV.
Weight lifting and low bodyfat increseases Testosterone. Testosterone has been found to reduce fatigue and grey matter loss.
Some studies have indicated that Vitamin D controls the levels of EBV in the body.

You can do a quick google search of anything I put above and find a supporting study. I dont have access to the links right now...
Best of Luck!

When I graduated from college, HIV was the retrovirus in the news...
Multiple Sclerosis retrovirus (MSRV) is something that has been postulated for 20 years or so.
This hypothesis has been around--we had a poster on here who was in this GNbAC1 drug testing two years ago.
http://www.thisisms.com/forum/drug-pipe ... 21380.html
The only way to learn more is thru drug testing on humans, since animal models of human endogenous retroviruses don't exist.
“It is not yet known whether HERV components play a role in launching or worsening the immune attacks on the central nervous system in people with MS, or whether they are a result of those attacks,” the National MS Society wrote, in an article in about the study. “Further studies are required to address these and other questions about these intriguing findings, and their possible implications for people with MS or other disorders.”

While some researchers are skeptical about the retrovirus connection, others, such as Gold and his colleagues, feel it’s imperative to study the possible link if we want to explore all possible triggers for MS.

And since there is no animal model for HERVs in MS, studying them poses a challenge. "Their exact role will only be obtained following appropriate clinical trials,” argued Gold in an interview with MedPage Today. “If we wait for the laboratory to give us the answer, we will all have been retired."

What is odd to me is that other HERVs, like HIV, mute the immune system response, they do not exacerbate the immune response, as is a proposed mechanism in MS. PwMS are not suppressing these viruses, either. MSRV is not unique to MS, and show up in healthy volunteers, as well.
However, retroviral expression has been reported in brain tissue from healthy subjects as well. In addition, no consensus has been reached on the endogenous/exogenous status of multiple sclerosis-associated retrovirus, which also needs clarification. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to systematically review the published data available on the viruses investigated in patients with multiple sclerosis and to evaluate their hypothesized role as contributing factors to the disease etiology. Evidence suggests that both retroviruses may be endogenous to humans and that failure to suppress viral activity may not be restricted to patients with multiple sclerosis and therefore an unlikely cause of the disease.

No, human trials are definitely the only way, at the moment. On "MS" patients. I have not forgotten all the time and money that had been spent on MBP-1128 or whatever it was I was on placebo for. It could turn out to be another blind alley. I won't bet the farm, believe me. But it would take a lot for me to stop hoping. Or playing with the piano.

they shouldn't do just human trials, they should first develop a complete conceptual understanding, and then trial what seems sensible to do.
