Flu Jab

Flu Jab

Postby Andy » Tue Oct 26, 2004 1:45 pm

Just wondering how many of us MSer's have had the anti flu jab and for how long? :?:

The reasons being is that I first started having the flu jab about 11years ago and have had the jab every year through work. I was diagnosed with PPMS in 1995 and I've only just found out that in most of these flu jabs there is a preservative and this preservative is Thimerosal, which is basically mercury based :?: :?: :?:
I have also a mouthful of amalgam dental fillings, again mercury based.

How many of you get these flu jabs and when did you start :?:

I still have the flu jab but now insist on the ones that DO NOT contain this Thimerosal.
They are Inflexal V, Begrivac and Pasteur from Aventis.

The ones that contain Thimerosal are Fluvirin, Fluarix, Influvac and Agrippal.
(This info I got from another MS site but I thought I would pass it on)

Hi Andy, great to see you... I can't help you with your question as I avoid the flu jab (I have an aversion to voluntary medical procedures 8) but I wanted to ask about how are you getting along these days?

Hi Andy

I've been getting flu jabs for about as long as you. I was dx'd RRMS in 2003, so probably have been getting them at least 10 years, but not this year.

There's very little vaccine in the US. The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) is recommending Amantadine (among others) as a chemoprophylaxis for "high risk" people. Since it's apparently already used for some MS symptoms, and is an antiviral agent, I might call my neuro to get a 3 mo. supply for the duration of the season.

I say you've already adopted the best advice, keep traveling and spending until the money runs out. Sounds like a wonderful plan. :)

Happy flu free traveling
