Those "balls in a box" are exactly what these were. Sounds like they may have stolen the idea from Olympia! You know, I always liked Olympia beer. Lot's didn't, but I didn't think it was bad at all. I suppose that could be because my neighbor growing up owned the Stroh's distributorship, so I was weaned on Stroh's and (gasp) Goebel, so my standards for what makes a good lager are pretty lax :D

Off topic, but we took one of those one time and carved out a loose contour of your shoulders in it so you could put it on like a helmet. Disclaimer: this story happened in college where we all know I probably had no sense. Well if you remember, those taps were the two pronged, so there were two holes with a gasket around each of them on top. Well you could get a decent seal by draping towels over your shoulders and neck, and guess what we would insert into one of the holes? Well then you could just plug the other and breath in real hard into you were pretty much ensconced in smoke. If you couldn't get a good seal, someone was always willing to "shotgun" it in there. Then you had to just breath in there until the smoke was gone. Kind of like a beer bong for a joint!
