The one time I found IVSM to be effective was when I had optic neuritis. It was when I was in the hospital during my initial diagnosis. My vision started to clear up after about 2-3 days. However, it remained heat sensitive for about 6 months afterwards, e.g., a hot shower or too much time outdoors during hot weather would cause it to cloud over until I cooled down.
