i am currently taking protonix qd, with a few rolaids or maalox on bad days. i was taking prilosec bid, also with swigs of anything to stop the heartburn, which seems to be non-stop anymore. i will take anything in my way on bad days (with my prescription stuff) like pepto-bismol, alkaseltzer, rolaids, maalox pills, (i'll drink sand if it would work!). But i had read on something (meds) coating the stomach too much or the ulcers causing so much irritation that it wasn't letting nutrition from food break down enough in the stomach to be absorbed in the intestines, causing anemia in some people.(Think I read it on WebMD). I've gained so much weight this past year and a half, i doubt i'd be anemic. I have been suffering from heartburn for close to 2 years now. That is why I had the endoscopy. (Dr. thought I might have the syndrome that causes esophagal cancer. - biopsy was ok)

If zinc'll cure heartburn too, i'm in! off to read your links.....thanks!

no probs :) let's see if we can get your guts pieced back together with some zinc, and then see what remains to be dealt with. if you can get your zinc levels tested before and after supplements, we can see if you're managing to absorb. another possibility would be to get some high concentration zinc oxide cream and put it on your skin. see if you can find penaten cream w/ 18% zinc oxide. let's see if we can get you some relief from pain! if you increase zinc rich foods and minimize gluten grain intake, that will help your zinc levels get higher.
