Beneficial Flora, do you or do you not?

Post by Pastryrocks »

My wife and I have for many years been quite careful with our diet. As a rule we do not eat processed foods, rarely eat out, eat fresh vegetables/fruits with all our meals, and try and eat organic meats, vegetables, and fruits when possible. Since my work was food related, I am very conscious of the what, how, and where our food came from and how it got to our plate within our budget.

Furthermore, we also are conscious of our beneficial flora. So when I found out that I am very low on beneficial flora I was rather shocked. Since this is where vitamins, minerals and amino acids are aborted through the intestinal walls and then into the body. As a rule I would take HMF Forte (http://www.rockwellnutrition-canada.com ... p_238.html) and eat fairly well. In the past if I did have to take any antibiotics it would be Wild Oregano and I would drink a bottle or two of Bio-K (http://www.biokplus.com/en-ca/home) while and after taking the Wild Oregano. So I assumed that all was well with my beneficial flora, not the case.

Of course my concern now is that if indeed I am not assimilating vitamins, minerals and amino acids properly. Which I am beginning to change, who else may not assimilating vitamins, minerals and amino acids? If vitamins, minerals and amino acids are important to all, and maybe even more important to those with MS, then I would assume that there is some importance to our guts and our ability to assimilate vitamins, minerals and amino acids in order.

Without a doubt our body will get rid of vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are not need/required, my colourful pee will attest to that. However, I now am unsure if my colourful pee is because I don’t need any/all of the of vitamins, minerals and amino acids or that I am unable to assimilate vitamins, minerals and amino acids that I need.

Presently I spend almost $10.00 daily on supplements. Without a doubt I may not need all that I am taking. But am I able to assimilate what I need? According to Doctor’s Data (http://www.doctorsdata.com/home.asp) test results I do not, this will change.

Added to my long list of supplements list is L-Glutamine (http://www.vitazan.com/pages/prod_detai ... cipe=P163A) 2 x 500mg capsules twice a day with meals, and Metagenics Ultra Flora IB (http://www.metagenics.com/products/a-z- ... a-Flora-IB), 1 capsule twice a day.
