What is more suitable forum for a pill made of natural substance than 'Natural Approach' ? :)
When I posted that, it was in a different forum, and hence I requested that it be moved here.

Sorry, I was just teasing you. :)

However, I did not understand the CCSVI connection you mentioned. I got lost with this whole CCSVI thing. Are there still people who believe that angioplasty resolve the problem? :)

Hi hargarah,
it is a great news. I already contacted the professor at the university and he confirmed that they are carrying out clinical trials with RRMS patients with relative improvements in 6 months. He said that more studies are required to get approval. However, he gave me no specifics. I do not know what is the mechanism of this drug and whether it might help ppms patients as well. Also, if it is a herbal substance, how is the approval procedure in Iran?

It is interesting that when searching on the net I found the following:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20694784

Quote:
MS14, an Iranian herbal-marine compound for the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
Ahmadi A, Habibi G, Farrokhnia M.
Abstract
MS14 is a natural herbal-marine drug, which has shown to slow down or halt the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS). This drug consists of 90% Penaeus latisculatus, 5% Apium graveolens, and 5% Hypericum perforatum L. Preclinically, the effects of MS14 have mostly been examined in an animal model of multiple sclerosis called experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE). Clinical studies of the effects of MS14 in MS patients also showed that it could improve the patients' quality of life. MS14 is a safe drug in MS patients and might also be effective in the treatment of other neurodegenerative disorders with the same mechanisms.

Could this be the same drug?

By the way, don't you want to rename the title? Is it definetely not homeopatic stuff. :) It is herbal.

Some good points.....

The study , per the web page description, has several problems which make it rather weak:

1. Only 65 patients finished the study. ( very small sample)

2. Duration of the study was okay ( 1 year, so we do not know what will happen after a year)

3. There is no mentioning about the type of the study, example; was it " cohort" ? " clinical trial" ? " double blinded" ? because if a study is not " Double-blinded clinical trial " or " large sample Cohort" is not usually a valuble study.

4. There is no table or graph that explain the side effects, reasons that patients dropped off , patients' age group, patients' sex, and etc... not enough data provided.

5. The treatment is only effective in mild cases, not in moderate or sever cases of MS!

She will continue looking into this by contacting of my old classmates (medical) and family in Iran

This article was from the news. Do not expect any graph or scientific desription of the study in such forum. Do you think Washington Post would cover the story in that details?:)
The herbal substance is taken with current MS drugs and results have been observed this way. Most of the patients showed relative improvements. The sample is smal, just as it is always in phase 1/2. No major sideeffects have been observed. The study is going on.

You are right. That's exactly. All these latin names were misleading. :) So, MS14 is not "MS Nut". They are different drugs. MS Nut is something new and made of plant's oil. :)
