Mix and match Glucosamine

Postby Jim_P » Tue Jan 08, 2008 4:45 am

I now have a stock pile of n-acetyl and a 250 pill bottle glucosamine chondroitin (triple strength 750/600).

I haven't taken the n-acetyl for two days because I'm going to try the off-on method.

This morning I tried a triple strengh chondroitin on a mostly empty stomach and at first I had, what felt like, serious side effects. My entire body was vibrating and every time I started to fall back to sleep I would wake up gasping for air. Scared the living beJesus out of me..... This may also have to do with the combination of that glucosamine pill and the two muscle relaxers I'm taking. Who knows.

As of now, these bad side effects have passed and I'm feeling even better than I did with the n-acetyl. I can wiggle my big toe on my right foot 100 miles per hour now. Not literally, but much faster than before. That seems to be a tell-tale sign of something, I think.

I also jogged in place for 3 minutes.

The problem is, I am way too afraid of the side effects I had.

N-acetyl is a walk in the park compared to this other stuff.

And by the way, as far as placebo effect goes.... After I took the chondroitin pill, I wished to Christ I had NOT taken it. If there would have been a placebo effect, it would have been quite the opposite of good. I was panicing and considering throwing up whatever was left in my stomach or calling an ambulance.

But I'll say it again, after the side effects passed, felt a creamy glow around my body (only way I can describe it). I even picked up my guitar and did some fingerpicking.... Another thing I haven't done in a long time.

Maybe I'll take a half a pill next time. Maybe I will mix and match it with the n-acetyl.

As far as making my MS worse, I have completely no evidence of this, since I started the n-acetyl. I have had some improvement.

Maybe it is working so good on me because I've had my (many)attacks in the past few years, only. I suppose I'm in the early stages of MS, but I have had enough attacks that there are extreme problems with my body that don't want to crawl away.

I've never been a religeous person, but I'm putting my faith in whatever force is out there to see me through this. Even if it means experimenting with the unknown.

You sound like an interesting guy JP, i'm glad you can wiggle your big toe. Do find any problem with taking muscle relaxers and jogging in place?
How long have you had ms and whats your EDSS.?If i were on the antibiotics or ldn squad i would want you on my team.
Had ms for over 19 years now.

I'm new at the lingo, what is EDSS?

I've had symptoms of MS since about 2004. Really bad symptoms in this past couple years. Stopped being able to emtpy my bladder almost a month after my optic neuritis (I was diagnosed because of optic neuritis) Then came the abdominal bear hug, then all of a sudden my legs start buckling many times walking down steps. I haven't been able to jog in place for two years, but I attributed that to being completely out of shape. It didn't hit me until I was diagnosed.

I'm beginning to wonder if I don't have something worse by the looks of my spinal MRI. My neck is almost completely white matter. I have a lesion in my spine that spans well over the typical 3 vertebrae in MS.

After all the horror stories of misdiagnosis, I'm just beginning to wonder if I should just shut my mouth and take the punches as they find me. Let it be, let it be, whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And no, muscle relaxers wouldn't hinder my ability to jog in place, but my painted spine would

The past couple mornings I'm feeling real improvement, but it seems to be limited to when it's coarsing through my system, at the moment. When I'm tired I start feeling my regular current shit-heap.

I've started combining the n-acetyl with a quarter to half pill of a triple strength "regular" glucasamine.

I can feel it something though, whatever that may be. If it means that I will only feel the improvements when I'm "on it", then I'll settle for that.

But, if it can make me feel this good part of the day, it must be doing something to change what's going on in my nervous system.

I've never gotten this from any other supplement or vitamin. I started taking glucosamine with less faith in it than other supplements I've tried.

If this is a placebo affect, then why didn't the other supplements do squat when I totally believed in them, much more than I had in this powder. I was becoming cynical about alternate treatments, in fact.

For a while it was fish oil, I believed in it so hard and no effect what-so-ever. Same with Primrose oil and blueberry juice and b vitamins. No cigar.

This Glucosamine goes far beyond placebo, at least in my MS situation. Let's hope it does more.
