Post subject: Benefits of statins and/or LDN alongside abx
PostPosted: Tue Jun 27, 2006 5:35 am
I am attempting to make a list of benefits felt by the number of people who are using LDN and/or statins in addition to as an antibiotic regime. I know quite a few people do and I know who some of you are, but I would like to know how much you think you have been helped by using more than one of these "alternative" regimes. Once I was diagnosed with SPMS of a very ...

Post subject: Statin, Avonex, Liver, Presciption Question
PostPosted: Tue Apr 11, 2006 6:11 am
This is a multiple part question.

Statins and Avonex have warnings about liver damage, does anyone think taking both is a serious health risk? Has anyone encountered problems taking both? Do we know more about the details of the risks to the liver and if they act in the same or different ways?

Has anyone found a neuro that would perscribe a statin? If you have low cholesterol, does that mean you can't get a ...

I know that human trials are on-going. I have an appointment with my neurologist next Wednesday and will ask about Lipitor (I am taking Rebif). I am going to ask him what are the reasons for not starting Lipitor. He tends to be very evidence-based and will say that there haven't ...

Post subject: OT:: Statins and heart disease
PostPosted: Tue Mar 14, 2006 2:54 am
This is a little off topic but it was a lead on the BBC this morning so thought I'd share it here>

Quote:
Drugs 'can reverse heart disease'

Statins can lower cholesterol
Intensive therapy with statin drugs may not just stall deterioration of the arteries but actually reverse it, research suggests.
The build-up of fatty deposits inside the arteries - atherosclerosis - can trigger cardiovascular disease.

An international study of 349 patients over two years ...

Post subject: Time of day to take statins
PostPosted: Tue Mar 14, 2006 2:22 am
Just got back from a pharmacy, where i chatted with the pharmacist about when to take statins. I have seen the question on this site before.

He told me that Lipitor can be taken at any time during the day, but simvastatin is best taken at night. The reason being that simvastatin (Zucor) relies on some enzyme. which is obviously at its highest point at night.
