Below is an article regarding the awarding of the Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine to two scientists for discovering that ordinary cells of the body can be reprogrammed into stem cells, which then can turn into any kind of tissue — a discovery that may led to new treatments - perhaps the ability of reprogrammed stem cells to remyelinate? Something that could work well after the HSCT has significantly diminished the auto-reactive lymphocytes.

Preclinical results suggest stem cell treatment could benefit MS patients Athersys, Inc. announced today it is presenting new research results at the Second Midwest Conference on Stem Cell Biology & Therapy at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, that highlight the potential for MultiStem®, its proprietary adult stem cell therapy, to treat multiple sclerosis (MS). The work conducted by Athersys scientists, in collaboration with Robert Miller, Ph.D. and other scientists from Case Western Reserve University ...

Printing Evolves: An Inkjet for Living Tissue http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000087 ... 51098.htmlUsing a process similar to inkjet printing, scientists are developing ways to make cartilage, blood vessels, organs, skin grafts and other tissues. Bioprinters emit cultured stem cells in three-dimensional structures, layer by layer . Scientists have yet to print capillary networks that keep normal tissue alive, and the engineered tissues are often not as strong as natural tissue.

Post subject: Slavin and MSC's Posted: Sun Sep 02, 2012 1:29 pm |

Hi again, was just wondering if any of you would think that getting a dose of MSC's in Israel would be a good idea for those recently diagnosed with RRMS? I know it's not going to stamp it out like HSCT, but it's basically harmless, no side effects according to Slavin, and from what I've read, it pretty much knocks the disease out for a year or so. You could get an infusion every year? ...

Hi there,
Can anyone adequately explain why it is going to take another 10 years before HSCT is approved by the FDA, when trials have been going on for sooooo long as it is? Do they really need to track the patients for ten years post infusion? It seems to me that these drugs are already being used for blood cancers and are known pretty well. Also it doesn't seem like the same length of ...

Frozen human embryos can yield viable stem cells http://zeenews.india.com/news/health/he ... 18337.htmlEven after being frozen for 18 years, human embryos can be thawed, grown in the laboratory, and successfully induced to produce human embryonic stem (ES) cells, which represent a valuable resource for drug screening and medical research. Kamthorn Pruksananonda and coauthors from Chulalongkorn University and Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand, demonstrated that ES cells derived from frozen embryos ...

Post subject: Cord Tissue and Placenta derived MSC's treatment Posted: Wed Aug 08, 2012 6:25 am |

I'm trying to gather info about stem cell treatments using MSC's derived from Cord Tissue and Placenta, as opposed to Bone-Marrow or Adipose Tissue derived MSC's. CTCI in Tel-Aviv - Prof. Slavin - now offers such an alternative, with the same cell expansion phase. But is it better, the same, more risky...?!? It seems to me that more research / clinical trials concentrate on the latter than the former and I haven't been able, so ...
