look what can be done when money is on the line

with Biogen at risk of losing billions on this blockbuster when patients keep getting PML, it's amazing to me how much progress they have made and how fast with this PML stuff. They now have specific tests, they understand the mechanism, they have some potential treatments. hmm, imagine what would happen if they got that fired up about actually solving diseases

Thoughts...

I was diagnosed when I was 17 (I'm 26 at the moment). Since then I have been on Avonex, Rebif, Betaseron, and Tecfidera. 4 years ago I had an MRI. I had 6 or 7 lesions. 2 years after that I had another MRI. At the time though I decided to self medicate and try and run from my health issues so I never went and got the results. 6 months ago I got the ...

Two years are up, now what?

I have tried copaxone and rebif, but neither one work. Then, I started tysabri. It has worked great, no new lesions or relapses! The bad part is I have hit my two year mark and now have to switch to a new med. Any suggestion as to what might work the same as the tysabri?

Surprised by diagnosis, no symptoms, is Tysabri right for me

Hi friends, over the past 3 weeks, after an unexpected MRI result for a different issue showed lesions on C4 and my brain and my spinal fluid was positive, I was diagnosed with MS. I have no symptoms other than GI issues a year ago that were fairly serious and led to a temporary colostomy. But I am not aware of neurological symptoms. I am 48, active, my kids are ages 9-15. My doctor is ...

Anti-NMDA may explain some MS mental deficits

Prematurely severe cognitive impairment in multiple sclerosis patients could be an effect of autoantibodies against the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor complex, with natalizumab (Tysabri) withdrawal a potential contributor, a case report from Germany suggested.

In an MS patient who had to be confined to a nursing home at age 39 because of cognitive deficits amounting to dementia, immunoglobulin G-type antibodies to the NMDA receptor's NR1 subunit were found in cerebrospinal fluid samples, according to Klemens Ruprecht, ...

Tysabri neutralizing antibodies appear increased by smoking

Natalizumab neutralizing antibodies in MS appear inreased by smoking

Smoking appears to increase the likelihood of developing neutralizing antibodies to natalizumab (Tysabri, Biogen Idec), which cause the drug to have little, if any, therapeutic effect in multiple sclerosis (MS), a new study suggests.

The study was presented by Tomas Olsson, MD, Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, at the recent MS Boston 2014, the 2014 Joint Americas and European Committees for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis ...

PML risk with Natalizumab in MS identified with new test

A new test seems to be able to stratify patients at risk for progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) while receiving the multiple sclerosis (MS) drug natalizumab more effectively than anything available at present.

The test is based on observations that patients who develop PML appear to have very low levels of L-selectin (CD62L) on CD4+ T cells in the months or years before they develop the condition..... Read More - http://www.ms-uk.org/tysabri
