Neuroscientists at the Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair at the University of South Florida have shown that a combination of human umbilical cord cells with the granulocyte stimulating factor reduced the loss of neuronal cells in the hippocampus of animal subjects with brain injuries. The results "may indicate that the stem cells had more widespread biological action than the drug therapy," said lead investigator Paul Sanberg.
