Biogen Idec confirmed 10 new cases of PML (0505 2012). The total number of PML cases among the Tysabri users rises to 242 and the total number of deaths increased at 52 (three other patients died of PML). PML patients mortality is currently about 21 percent.

PML cases have now jumped to 250...don't know if any additional deaths.

The July 2012 Tysabri PML update has been reported by Biogen and Elan to physicians.

As of July 3, 2012, there have been 264 PML cases, of which 157 have been in the European Economic Area (EEA), 95 in the US and 12 in rest of world (ROW), 58 of the 264 patients with PML have died.

81 natalizumab-treated MS patients who developed PML and for whom serum samples were available 6-187 months prior to the onset of PML. Of these 81 patients:

Harry I'm wondering if death by pml outweighs life ruined by ms? Kind of a toss up when you find yourself spending most the day in bed....feel me?

I guess that depends on the feeling of the MS patient and his/her views on the disability level. I know that my wife, after suffering for several years with progressive MS, got fed up with life and the constant suffering.

I believe the deaths from PML stat originated from Biogen in trying to point out that the death rate was dropping when PML got diagnosed early and treatment began at that time. But I've read comments on the net from friends of PML patients who stated that the patient often wished they had died rather than suffer the level of disability brought on by the PML.

As of August 1, 2012, there have been 271 PML cases, of which 162 have been in the European Economic Area (EEA), 97 in the US and 12 in rest of world (ROW).

As of August 1, 2012, 59 of the 271 patients with PML have died.

As of August 1, 2012, in 85 natalizumab-treated MS patients who developed PML and for whom serum samples were available 6-187 months prior to the onset of PML. Of these 85 patients:

83 (98%) tested anti-JCV antibody positive at all time points where samples were available for testing;

1 patient (1%) tested anti-JCV antibody negative 9 months prior to PML diagnosis and anti-JCV antibody positive 6.5 months prior to PML diagnosis;

Squiffy, why don't you post this new information as a separate thread, since the numbers are completely different than the thread heading. Or else, someone should just start a sticky thread on the Tysabri forum for PML updates...

Dx'd with MS & HNPP (hereditary peripheral neuropathy) 7/03 but must have had MS for 30 yrs before that. I've never taken meds for MS or MS symptoms except 1 yr experiment on LDN. (I found diet, exercise, sleep, humor, music help me the most.)
