Unfortunately the number of PML cases has made another significant jump by 10 in the last month, bringing the total to 312. Don't know if any more deaths have resulted.

I wonder if this has to do with the medicine, or with the number of people staying on it despite the JC Virus tests or their doctors' suggestions.

Either way, this is really disconcerting.

Yes, especially considering that ~ 87% of the people who get PML and survive will become moderately to severely disabled from the PML.
Among 38 patients with Karnofsky performance ratings by their physicians at least six months after PML diagnosis, only five were in the "mild" disability category. Half were rated as moderately impaired, and 37% were severely disabled and required custodial care.

Even coming off Tysabri can be lethal.

Also note that the number of PML cases has doubled since February 2012. tysabri-antegren-or-natalizumab-f11/topic18045.html

Biogen attempted to placate the user group by developing a test for the JC virus. It gave those who were negative a false sense of security since one can still get PML from using Tysabri even if they test negative. This is one powerful immune system altering drug that has made Biogen millions of dollars despite the dangers that surround Tysabri. That's what slick marketing and sales can do for you and Biogen is the best at it.

Apparently there were 3 more deaths included in the latest update of PML cases.
