hope you can get some virus fighting food/meds in you ASAP!

great virus-fighting nutrients are as follows: vit A, vit C, vit E8, selenium and zinc.

animal foods with decent amounts of retinol (vit A) include milk, shrimp, eggs, salmon and so on. excellent plant food sources of carotenoids (which your body then converts to retinol) include greens like romaine, spinach, kale, and chard, plus starchy veg like sweet potato, carrots and squash.

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tnam ... #foodchart

there are lots of excellent sources of vit C, but some of the highest are papaya, bell peppers, strawberries and broccoli.
http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tnam ... t&dbid=109

for vit E, choose chard and spinach for greens, and for nuts/seeds go for raw sunflower seeds and almonds (be sure to mix in some walnuts and flax seeds to balance the omega fatty acid ratio)

and, you already have the shopping lists for zinc and selenium :)

by the way, some info on eggplant:

hmm excellent source of manganese - i haven't really looked at manganese and ms before, could be worthwhile to investigate...

okay. i've been in testing all day.
so far we've done blood testing for a bunch of stuff
urinalysis
and an x-ray of my spine and neck to make sure this isn't just a combination of being fat and having a slipped disk.

it was frustrating. i mean, outright she started dismissing it as my weight causing it, at which point i began to cry. i had brought the symptom list to her and that helped a little bit, because she then decided to do a physical exam (which i faiillllleeed).

she started having a worried look on her face when i couldn't resist her on my arms or legs (you know the press-downy thing) and idk how the foot thing went because i was too busy crying/trying to calm down.
then i couldn't give them any blood, so they sent me to the hospital.

she's worried about the possibility that i cannot get a lumbar puncture or an MRI, but to be honest, i feel comfortable waiting for one until we make sure it's not something else.

if we get to that point, she already referred me to the hospital for an x-ray. (the public hospital that can't refsue to treat you even when you're poor.)
well, lots of xrays. i had to take breaks because the postures hurt and my feet went numb.

also my feet went numb and then lead-like during the appointment, but not when she was in the room. i'm hoping that she's not just going to run me aruond.
she's looking for evidence inflammation in all of this.

if somethign serious happens, though, like paralysis or something else, i'll just go to the emergency room.

it was hard being dismissed at first, but at least she decided to start testing, and not just keep dismissing me outright, you know?

at least she's testing for all these things it could be.

i'm going back in two weeks for a memory test and more physical tests.

also! i have bed bugs! and as soon as i don't feel like a beached whale, energywise, i'm goign to go about throwing a bunch of my stuff away and sanitizing my house.
(also she gave me lice shampoo and anti-itch tablets.)

then at least i won't be itchy and miserable!

overall, i'm a BIT frustrated, but i'm guessing it's a good thing that we're doing the process of elimination.

hey there, sorry to hear you had a rough day - glad to hear you got the investigative ball rolling though!

i've come down with a cold. edgerhgetahe and awwwwhhh salmon sounds so good. i live in wyoming, way far away from any fresh salmon, but i'll definitely be picking up some frozen. so what i'm getting from this thread is i want to eat more -
-sweet potatoes
-salmon.
what else can i pick up at the grocery store?
(btw THANK YOU for these suggestions- along with more frequent exercise these food tips may help me lose weight.)

Eat more of the foods that are higher on the list...
diet-f9/topic17276-90.html#p174562

Steam or sauté the veggies to retain the nutrients, or make a soup.

Avoid foods listed as negatives.

friend reassured me about the doctor i'm seeing not being ridiculous (it' really hard to trust doctors) but also said that if i had another episode of not being able to walk i need to go to the hospital. (if something serious happens i will). i need to get better at advocating for myself. we talked about how during my doctor's appointment, my feet went numb and i couldn't move. i laid back on the table and the nurse came in and was like 'get up' and she was really mean-sounding.
i didn't say 'i can't move, my legs aren't working' but i just sat there and made her mad.
i need to tell them when symptoms are happening right in front of them. i need to stop dismissing it when i cant walk.
but i do need to trust my doctor.
i was reassured that she's not just dismissing me if she's immediately ordering more tests.
she's not equipped to diagnose but it's probably ethical to do all the investigative work before saying 'i'm out of my depth here, i need to refer you to someone else.'

i'm hoping that being poor doesn't turn against me, because i can't afford the mri or the lumbar puncture. still, you know, i'm just going to trust my doctor for now.

i thoroughly trust and depend on my doctors. that said, i am very glad that i understand their limitations, their computer systems' limitations, laboratory limitations., etc.

If you are having problems with your bowels seems to indicate a digestive problem. You might consider a probiotic which will help your gut get back to normal. I use Kombucha tea but there are other forms of probiotics. Some people have a serious problem with gluten or dairy. You might try and elimination diet to see if gluten or dairy is a problem. The only advice I can give is that of nutrition because that is all I know. I have tried the drugs and they just made me sicker. Hope you can find the answer because I know how it feels to be sick. Good Luck.
