Improving Cognitive Function?

Hello everyone,
Newbie here.....
I am currently in my worst relapse (newly diagnosed, I but have ignored my pretty severe MS symptoms for 10 years)
Question:
Up until this last year my symptoms have been more related to sensory/motor. However, this last year I have felt cognitive changes. I feel as if I am slowing down mentally & I am tuning out those around me. I'm not sure if it's a bit of depression or the MS itself. I worked as an ICU nurse prior to this current relapse, but I can not work at the moment. I currently can't even figure out how to do basic things that were previously routine around my home.
Is this a symptom shared by others? Can I get some tips or methods being used successfully to increase alertness & overall cognitive function?
Thanks!
Sarah
