Is the fungus in question toe nail fungus? I have had severe toe nail fungus prior to my MS and it has continued throughout the disease progress. I have been applying lacquer without much luck and the liver damage aspect of the drugs has put me off using them. Any advice?
thanks

Luvsadonut,
love your name! I have been using Tea Tree Oil on my toenail fungus for a few weeks now and it really is improving!!!!!
I have had toenail trouble for years and there was no way I was ever going to take any of the oral meds, especially after I took Avonex for years.
I got it at my pharmacy and they have it at the health stores.
I rub it into my nails a few times a day with a Qtip. It really smells strong, kind of like eucalyptus, so I put the used Qtips in a small bottle and dispose of when full. If you put it in the bathroom trash your family will scream!!
It dries pretty fast and is more of an astringent type liquid than oily. Evaporates and doesn't stay oily tho the name sounds like olive oil or something like that. It is not.
Hope you have luck with it. I paid $12.00 for a small bottle that looks like it will last a few months.
Rose ;)

"certain pathogenic fungi sequester in non-neuronal tissue"
Does any body know what tissue they're talking about in their paper. Also has anybody had tests for fungal infection thats came back positive?

thanks for the info Rose2 and the compliment about the name!, as Im trying lacquer Ill keep persevering with it as I tried tea tree a while ago without much luck, although I may not have tried for long enough. I was really after info regarding toe nail toxins and their effect on the body, other than the link posted at the start of this thread. I was wondering if it is common knowledge amongst podiatrists or toe/nail fungus specialists than toxins released from seemingly harmless (so the doctors say) fungal infections could debilitate people in various forms much like how chiropractors say that poor posture/back problems can cause a myriad of problems. Im looking to find podiatrists or toe/nail fungus specialists in southern England to see if they can help or shed some light on my thoughts. My thinking is that if a fungus is so strong that it can make nails become black and fall off they must be strong enough to cause some sort of internal damage.........

but the big question is would these fungal toxins thrive in a healthy body? I dont know but an example for me is my feet. when ill they dried up and cracked and my nails turned yellow. now in remission they are clearing up. I did not kill the fungus with medication just made my body less hospitable. correlation will forever be equated to causation and we will chicken egg and such.

I have not had a problem with toenail fungus. I have had no reason to try the following treatment:

Dr. Mehmet Oz addressed the topic of toenail fungus some time in the last two weeks on his TV program. He suggested that soaking the feet in a strong tea could help because of the tannin in tea.

I have no idea if this would help, but my philosophy is "What do I have to lose?"

Has anyone done an antifungal programme and suffered a really bad herximer reaction? I am still doing nystatin/antifungal herbs/ no sugar diet. I am sitting here with another bout of severe vertigo. I had many theories for me suffering the first bout 3 weeks ago but now I am sure is either the anti-candida stuff or just the "MS". Either way its the worst thing in the world. I just hope its not permanent.

Two home tests:
http://www.ninazu.com/tests1.html
make sure you use water without any chlorine, bottled water would be best.

I was positive on both, urine pH 5.8 - but these home tests are not too reliable - other problems can also cause such effects, i planned on taking lab test, just haven't decided yet which extra tests could be useful, postponed...
Starving myself of sugar, carbohydrates for two weeks, drinking a lot of water, some garlic, onions, no herximer reaction so far, just headaches.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycotoxin# ... activators
esterase, Trichosporon mycotoxinvorans, BBSH 797 these are not for interal use, i guess ?

any tips how to lower mycotoxins concentrations ?
vitamin c ? but high doses of vit c can be harmful & it reduces uric acid
N-Acetyl Cysteine ? ...

P.S.: I was negative on candida lab test...
