Hi,

I've just recently been given a probable dx. My vision has been blurred/dimmed for five months now. I see this is a fairly common thing with MS.

Can anyone tell me - does your vision get better once your on one of the MS drugs? Or is this damaged forever? I appreciate your honest responses on if your vision returned to normal.

Thx

MS is a disease of the central nervous system. There is 12 key nerves that can be attacked. The optic nerve is one of them. The optic nerve is the only one of them that can be examined without a post mortem. They can see the optic nerve, when looking into your eye, and they can see the demyelining attacs. (not always, depending on where the attack is happening) You can have demyelining attacs on the optic nerve without MS, but it is likely that it will develop further.
I have had a couple of attacs on my optic nerve. With blurred patches when looking at sertain angles. They have all gone back. For me it has been very painful when it was going on, but it can also be without pain.
It hasn't cleard up fully, it blurred vision returns when tiered, but affter a rest it clears up again. When it has just flaired up cause of tierdness it hasn't been any pains with it.
I feel now that my eyesight is slightly deteriorating, or maybe its just constantly blurred as I am always tiered. IT is a bit up and down still. But in the beginning of the disease, you will probably have close to full recovery whatever the attack. It can last for awhile, but most things does improve with time. Before it happens again, with another attack or just progression of symtoms. It can take years, even decades.
Sorry to hear about your possible diagnosis, and good luck to you. I read somewhere that people who has optic nerve problems at onset, often has a more benign development of MS. If true or not, I do not know.

My optic neuritis improved lots (it was really terrible for a long time once, now I don't notice it, although my vision's far from perfect.)

It gradually improved over two years or so.

I understand that this is not unusual.

Yes, my optic neuritis was very bad, but has cleared over the years. I find the blurry vision aspect of MS has to do with foods and pollens, etc. If I stay clear of gluten, milk products, and ALL the other foods and things am allergic to, the blurriness clears. (supplements help it to clear also).

My understanding is that optic neuritis will get some better with a combination of steroids/time/I assume tysabri helps as well but the CRAB drugs won't help with that.

I got diagnosed because of optic neuritis in my left eye and while it got some better it never got back to where it used to be. However, my right eye seems to have become so dominant that I really don't even notice it unless I close my right eye.
