Hey, its been a while since i have come on here...was sick and busy moving for the last few months but im back...for now :).

Anyway, so I just moved to Brockville Ontario which is close to ottawa and now have to be referred to a neurologist in ottawa. I have a nurse practitioner here who mentioned referring me to Dr. Freedman in Ottawa. He's an ms specialist but his reviews on rate md's kind of scare me away from him. Has anyone on here from the ottawa area ever seen him? if so whats he like? Is there another neurologist i should maybe ask for?

another little bit of info. I ended up going back on depo(progesterone) because I was too busy worrying about gallbladder issues to have to deal with my periods(it was confirmed during surgery in may that i do have endometriosis). Anyway a couple of weeks after I started taking the depo my neurological symptoms disappeared. No speech problems, vision problems, memory problems, vertigo, etc(except for the odd occasion). Now after i get my gallbladder removed im gonna try to go off depo again to see what happens. I just find it very odd that when I'm on it im fine. but when off of it i am pretty much handicapped :(. One symptom that has stayed around tho is the swallowing problems...holy crap i almost choke everytime i eat...its horrible :(

Any suggestions on that would be helpful as well...i dont want to have to be on progesterone my whole life(i want to have kids).

Thanks

Hi Sandra

Isn't moving fun! I'm being sarcastic. I'm sorry but I can't help you about a neurologist. (I don't live anywhere near Ottawa but I live in Canada!!!) Is there any way that you could see this neurologist that the nurse practitioner mentioned? Go gather your own opinion about him/her and take it from there. The neuro may be better than you think. I have had grace extended to me in different circumstances so I try to extend grace as well. Am I successful always? No ... but I am more successful than if I had never tried.
All the best! ALL THE BEST
:-) Patti

There has been some discussion of Dr. Freedman on the CCSVI forum. You could try searching that forum to read the posts. I should probably warn you first that not too many people on the CCSVI forum think all that much of Dr. Freedman these days.

And also it should be mentioned that most of the posters who are anti-Freedman on RateMD's or whatever are just people from this board who are mad about things he has said in the media, and have never personally met him... there just trying to ruin his career. Personally don't know much about the fellow except that I'd be scared of his stem-cell therapy, as I'd be scared of any new, experimental and possibly lethal treatment.

I am from the region of Ottawa and I have seen Dr Freedman in the past. MY neurologist now is Dr. S. Christi. I chose to change neurologist because I did not like the approach of Dr. Freedman. He does a lot of research, he is very smart, but I felt like a simple study subject... not really listening to me you see....
As for the swallowing issue, the trick is to lower your chin every time you swallow. It is what they tell the stroke patients (who have swallowing issues ) as well. take good care and hope all the moving will not be too hard on you. Carole
