I had hubby checked for that as soon as we were diagnosed with MS in January as he has so many allergies. In Canada the test is not covered and it ran $120 but I did get 80% back from my drug company. I also suspect half of people with MS might suffer from Leaky Gut as well but it is just a theory on my part so I work with probiotics to keep the stomach in balance. Also I believe in hubby staying clear of all foods that he is intolerant to hence why I needed to know if Gluten was out of his diet. Thank God he isn't as it is a hard diet to follow long term. He also follows a low saturated fat diet with high content of omega 3 through ground flax. D3 is another one I believe needed as well as a number of other's.Good article but the theory isn't knew they are just beginning to recognize a possible connection.

Hi,

I had my blood tested at http://www.allergy-testing.com/. The results were that I had increased sensitivity to gluten, lactose, some nuts and some other things. I have eliminated them from my diet (quite cumbersome) but I'm feeling hungry again, a feeling that I couldn't even remember before. My theory is that these allergies stress your immune system and allow your body to be infected by bacteria causing the MS. So now I'm taking antibiotics with a lot of supplements and I'm improving.

Kind regards,

HappyDaddy

Why the antibiotics??? Why not choose probiotics to balance your system.? I'm a tad nervous of antibiotics myself as my belief is they disrupt the normal pattern of your immune system and I'm not half convinced they are not part of the big picture to what contributes to MS in the first place. Just an opinion by the way. :D When I met hubby 21 years ago he was taking needles for allergies and antibiotics for just about everything. I was raised in a family where there is a natural remedy for nearly everything simple. That does not mean I don't believe in medicine because I do. I just like to limit it to the times when there is actually no alternative. I pulled hubby from his seasonal allergy meds and it took years but he no longer gets attacks. His immune system corrected itself. His food allergy's are many but vary from year to year as we rotate the intolerant foods one at a time(small amounts) in order to once again let his own body adjust by itself. Total elimination will only make it harder on his system long term. One exception is tree nuts as he goes into anaphylactic shock on those. So we steer clear at all times. I'm just interested in all approches as a full picture of MS is what will lead us to the cure in the end. I guess I best check out the antibiotic forum to see what is there.

Melody,

Yes, do check out both the antibiotics forum and the regimens forum as well. You take probiotics along with the antibiotics, but at a different time of the day. No idea if I had a leaky gut or anything, but I do know that from having very aggressive SPMS two years ago I am now well on the way to a full recovery.

Sarah :)
