Dear all,

The annual ECTRIMS / ACTRIMS get together is taking place in Greece in late September. For those interested I attach a link which sets out the programme. Neuro-protection is being discussed - which is good. As usual the same old companies are sponsoring the event. I particular like the tours that are offered.

Deb,

Perhaps we should turn up and pretend to be MS experts (even with our limited knowledge we know more that most of the so called experts). Then we could take all the tours and bill Biogen or Teva.

And next March there is a major conference in Sydney Australia. It's to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Australian MS Society (not really much to celebrate given that its aim is to find the cure and 50 years later no one has yet identified the cause). But there must be a major breakthrough soon (I'm in a positive frame of mind today) surely!

When I was dx last year I called the UK MS helpline. The woman who answered was very nice and told me that internally the organisation was planning to be out of existence by 2015 as they thought that MS would be cured etc by then. I'm not convinced that this will pan out like this. Where would all the MS researchers go? No more junkets to lovely places around the world. They'd have to invent another disease to keep them busy.

Hollie (our VP of Scientific Operations) and I will be attending ECTRIMS this year. We'll do our usual write-up of what we find. I didn't know about the tours - maybe we'll try and take one. I will say that neuros are the most boring conventioneers on the planet. They don't party, they wear suits every day (even in Hawaii), and there isn't a lot of laughing happening. But we'll let you know what happens when we get back.

That's the best time to go to Greece for the heat intolorent crowd. Not searingly hot, still pretty, no monsoons yet.

I'm sort of glad to hear that Art, given that the topics being discussed are malignant MS and brain atrophy.

I note that the ACTRIMS and ECTRIMS meetings are combined - not sure if this is usual. If not, perhaps they have some real news to report.

The list of invitees is a who's who of the MS research world.

Enjoy Greece, Art, if you haven't been before.
