Hi Everyone,

Its been a long time since I've posted something...and now I've a question! My partner (with MS) and I recently purchased a house and with that came the idea that we should up our life insurance from just the basic offered by our employer. In any event, he has since been denied covereage because of MS by two insurance companies. Any ideas or suggestions of providers we could seek a policy from?

Thanks!

As far as I know, you are out of luck.
I have life insurance (pre dx) with a fraternal organization and they will not provide me with any additional coverage as I am 'uninsurable' according to my agent. If a fraternal insurance program will not cover it, you can bet no commercial one is likely to want to do so.

This is sad. I am thinking baout the same thing for me and for the wellbeing of my family. Life Insurance policies should really be able to distinguish between accidental death and MS. Plus, very few actually die from their MS. Very sad.

A number of years ago I got life insurance cover through a local bank. It was about 12 years post diagnosis. There was a loading because of the ms and a medical report was required.

I have life insurance for over 30 years. I am now un-insurable because of MS. I am now looking into selling my policies. I was going to drop them because I'm getting older, and don't really need them anymore. There are people that buy them because I'm considered a bad insurance risk, which could be good for them.

I purchased a policy (separate from the policy from my work) about 5 or 6 years before diagnosis. I still pay my payments every month and assume it is still in effect. I haven't thought to say anything to them. Do I need to?

I don't think that's what anybody is saying. You may have misread the posts.

Before you do that, you may want to go through the fine print with a fine toothed comb. If it's all in legaleeze that can't be understood by mortals, then you might want to check with a legal aide first.

Chaz,

You can try to get life insurance through "OutlookLife". On their website it says that they offer affordable life insurance regardless of your health. A couple months ago I was also denied coverage by an insurance company but was referred to them. The agent said that they are recommended by the MS Society. I don't know how expensive it is but maybe you want to check out their website and see if it makes sense for you.

Good luck!

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has some information on insurance. Perhaps there is something useful for you there.
