Seasons Greetings to All. I hope everyone with MS is staying positive in their daily struggles. I know first hand how tough that is. You're not alone.

I would appreciate any information on whether or not mercury poisening in persons with MS is real, if so, is there anyone who beleives it is causative, why? likewise, is there anyone who thinks its quackery? Why? Thank you for sharing your opiinions and experiences.

Chris, when I was first dx I read everything I could get my hands on including information on amalgam fillings. I have a bunch of fillings and thought about having them removed. What made me decide not to worry about them is the fact that people get MS without having any fillings. So it's been five years since that time and I am doing fine, BBD and copaxone and lots of vitamin d. Dave

After I was diagnosed I did have all my amalgam fillings replaced. I do know that you need to have a dentist who knows how to do this. It is my understanding that mercury can leak from filling if not removed properly.

There are convincing arguments on both sides of this debate. For me it all came down to the fact that mercury is toxic, so I had them replaced.

Ditto Thomas; tho it did not change the course of my SPMS

Polycarbonate, which is also used for fillings, is made from bisphenol-A. This molecule was originally studied as a chemical estrogen. The bonds that hold the bisphenol-A monomer together into the polymer known as polycarbonate are weak and can be hydrolyzed. Bisphenol-A with it's estrogenic activity is an endocrine disrupting agent. The world is not perfect. One chooses which evil is the lesser. I have also seen gold fillings just pop out to due to poor bonding between the gold and the tooth.

For more info on bisphenol-A, plastics and their endocrine disrupting properties, search PubMed for the author Frederick vom Saal (use the search parameter "vom saal fs [au]"). Many of his papers are available for free.

Bisphenol-A also promotes increased secretion of insulin.

When I got mine taken out, I didn't feel any difference

when I took DMSA, chelator, I felt a difference with the first three pills I took(all 3 at once) but no difference after the first 3

I had 8 removed & replaced with porceline. $2200 cash out of my pocket. That was 8 months ago & my status continues to decline. I still feel good about having them taken out. I just wanted to do everything in my power to stop this. Then I couldn't tell myself "if I had only had those fillings removed" I did have to travel to find a dentist who knew what he was doing. He used a rubber thing to block off fluids & debri from entering my throat & I used a closed nasal oxygen mask during the procedures. It took 4 visits- 2 hours each visit. It was pretty horrible by the way for me & the dentist (he wore a closed mask also & he was sweating horribly, turning pale toward then end of each session)
