Pain causes relapses?

Hi! I have a question. :) I've heard a lot of people say that pain can cause them a relapse. Is it the actual pain that somebody feels that can cause a relapse, or is it the stress on the body? Like could a trip to the dentist cause a relapse, even though he numbs it first? Or is it something else that causes it, no matter if it's numbed or not Thanks! :)

certain anaesthetics drain vitamin b12 which could have neuropathic consequences. i have not personally had relapses yet so i could not say for sure, but i definitely had my initial dx attack after a painful crash snowboarding. i don't really think it was the pain itself, i think it was that the trauma aggravated pre-existing spinal cord injury resulting in what seems, 5 years later, to be permanent damage.
