Question about how to post my new MRI pics (old thread)

This question is copied & pasted from my thread on "Site Support."

******************************
I just had new MRIs taken and finally got a CD where I could copy & save individual ones to post here. Trouble is, the picture-hosting site suggested in the Intro forum, Photobucket, had a major crash several days ago. They still don't know when they'll get it fixed. I already had an account on PB before then with a photo that I had hoped to use as an avatar, but I still have it on my computer.

Any other suggestions? I'm dying to show off the inside of my skull in public. :)
*******************************
I'm hoping for suggestions from posters of their favorite, most user-friendly sites. I've NEVER posted pics directly from online photo sites before. The Photobucket site always locked up my computer when I attempted to load that one pic on here anyway.

Thanks for your advice. :)

For any other posters who may have been reading this thread in vain, hoping for picture posting advice, but too polite to whine about it like I did... :) NHE posted the following information for us on another thread. Thanks, NHE.

from NHE:
Personally, I've got a hectic schedule for the next 2 days of work, but I hope I have time to check out the links soon. And to all - feel free to post any more picture questions or answers for us on this thread.

Very interesting... I see that this thread about HOW to post MRI pics has no real replies or discussion, whilst the topic itself still has elicited over 740 "views"! During the same time frame, the fabulous thread in which I actually posted my own MRIs has only 160 "views." :)
(My MRI thread: http://www.thisisms.com/ftopict-16335.html )

That leads me to believe that there are hundreds of people out there in cyberspace who, like me, also have an exhibitionist's desire to post revealing pics of their naked brains for the whole world to see, but, like me, were too inept to do so. :D

I'm not sure exactly what info posters are looking for, so I'll bump this thread, explain in my own rambling, ravaged brain sort of way how I finally posted my MRI pics, and maybe others will stop in to give us simpler, easier shortcuts. Or you can stop in to ask questions. Or feel free to post one of yours on here.

**First you need a CD/DVD of your MRIs from wherever you had them done. When I asked at my recent MRI, they made a CD for me on the spot - free. I also have films of all my early MRIs (2003, 2004, 2005), and once they switched to CDs, I called and got free copies of those on CD also. The physiatrist who dx'd me told me to pick up the films & radiologist reports (1st copies are free) and take them to a neuro, so I've made sure to get them ever since. I'll need to take this one to my next neuro visit.

The CD opens right up, but it's in a weird format, so I had to do a lot of clicking to pull up all the series of dozens of pics (with help from someone at work). I picked about 6 of the best views, pulled them up to "display" one at a time, clicked on the "Tools", then "Export Image" (not "save as"), chose "Image" instead of "Series", and quickly saved each one to my computer.

**To make them a better size to post, I took a wild guess and did what I do with regular CD photos to make them e-mailable. I right click and "open" each one with "Microsoft Picture Manager" and not the Windows default picture editor (it's so much easier for me). I "edited" by first cropping my name and extra space out of the frame. Then I "edited" by "resizing" to 50 %. It made them just the right size – not too big for a narrow thread, but big enough to see the details.

**Then I had to navigate a photo hosting site, which ended up being Photobucket after all. It was a top rated site for ease, and it was back online by the time I returned to my project anyway.

**I followed the directions to load them all. Then it was super simple to click the "img" link choice listed under each pic (which automatically copies it) and then post each one on my thread. Here's a sample of how they come out.

**Here's a link to the thread on TiMS that tells in general how to post pictures here: http://www.thisisms.com/ftopict-3242.html

These are still not quite small enough for an avatar pic, but you can find those directions under your "Profile" section.

Happy clicking!

Just bumping this old thread because someone had a new question about posting MRIs today. I'm still waiting for additional hints.

Hooray - I also figured out how to edit the original subject heading - I just edited it on my first post and that changed the whole thread title. Cool!
