burning shins

I'm just sayin'. Geez, like I need a new damn sensation to irritate me. Woke up with them this morning, after experiencing a nasty burning right calf yesterday.

A 'quick Google' (which is not nearly as much fun as it sounds like it should be :) ) led me to running and weight lifting sites. I haven't run for years, but it may be due to some new exercises I've added.

I always assume that 2-sided problems (both legs at once) are neither MS nor HNPP, but I really don't have a clue about this one yet. My usual approach is to over-exercise it away - which often works - but in this case it may be part of the problem.

Or it could just be age. Sigh. I doubt this is an MS thing, because my weirdnesses seldom are, but I decided to whine here before work instead of unloading about it to co-workers. :)

Sending you guys fabulous, healthy, pain-free wishes today. I'm glad for this site. :)

P.S.

I just remembered that night before last I was up several times with muscle cramps all over both legs - very unusual for me, and the first leg cramps I've had in many months. And they were in both legs instead of just the usual MS side.

I did my best to load back up on magnesium-rich foods yesterday, and had no cramps at all last night. I may be feeling the aftereffects in my legs today, however. Or not.

Thanks, Jimmy,

I've been taking B12 & D for a year, after I got my doc to order testing and I was super low. Retest showed them right back up to normal. Interesting thing is that I had really cut down on sugar (even more than usual) for the last couple of weeks. Have had problems with multi-vitamins in the past (another long story), but I really try to get a variety of healthy foods into my diet. Every 2-3 days I eat a big, fresh spinach salad with broccoli, caul, red peppers, tomatoes, carrots, & a little chicken. Also eat lotsa fresh fruits, nuts, pumpkin seeds.

New food for those couple of days....yogurt. Hmmm. I hadn't tried it for a couple of years, but don't really like it. I'll wait a few days and eat a couple more. Also ate my 1st cheeseburger in a month.

Why don't you list me some b-complex foods?

But guess what? Now my kneecaps are burning, too. It's starting to sound more like an MS mystery all the time. :)

Do a google search on Shin Bone Fever and then you'll know what you have.

Oh yuck, bartman, that's disgusting!!! I'll never get to sleep tonight. Thanks a lot! :D

Here you go, gang. The only thing that reassures me is that I don't have any of the main symptoms (no fever, headache, actual pain, rash). Of course, it could also present with "nonspecific symptoms" or "no symptoms," so it's definitely worth worrying myself sick about. :)

Shin bone fever: Called shin bone fever because it characteristically causes fever and pain in the legs, this disease is also known as trench fever. It is a disease borne by body lice that was first recognized in the trenches of World War I...

The cause of trench fever is Bartonella quintana (also called Rochalimaea quintana), an unusual rickettsial organism that multiplies in the gut of the body louse. Transmission of the rickettsia to people can occur by rubbing infected louse feces into abraded (scuffed) skin or into the conjunctivae (whites of the eyes).

The disease is classically a 5-day fever. The onset of symptoms is sudden with high fever, severe headache, back pain and leg pain and a fleeting rash. Recovery takes a month or more. Relapses are common.

It is now clear, that at least in its urban form among the homeless, trench fever can be associated with nonspecific symptoms or no symptoms (New England Journal of Medicine 340: 184-189, 1999).
Holy crap.

Finally a smart person I hope. Do you know what treats shin bone fever? Let me tell you. Antibiotics- Zithromax + Doxy or Mino or Rifampin. or Bactrim DS + Zithromax. It's worth a try don't you think. The drugs have a very safe record and are the only drugs that have ever cured anything. MS=Lyme + Bartonella+ Babesia. Smart not to do the MS drugs. Why do you think the best MS drug is not Copaxone alone but Copaxone + Minocycline.
Something to think about.

Well, good morning! For those who were concerned that I had rubbed too much louse feces into my eyes and contracted the dread fever, I seem to be okay this morning after all. :) And I still have NONE of the symptoms, especially NO fever, no back/leg pain, no rash.

Even my shins weren't painful - just gave me a mildish burning sensation, which is almost gone today. Seems more like overworked muscles after all.

Jimmy, I'm still hoping you have a list of B complex foods for me. Thanks.
