Anxiety and depression in MS patients around diagnosis

Summary: In this study the authors administered the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) during diagnostic workup at baseline, and then repeated at one and six months after diagnosis disclosure. 197 patients were screened and the results suggest that anxiety was most prominent in the period surrounding MS diagnosis disclosure, particularly in women. A slight but significant reduction occurred six months after diagnosis disclosure. Depressive symptoms were less common and stable over time. Oh what a surprise, we are anxious and depressed when diagnosed with an incurable, degenerative neurological disease. What a colossal waste of time. Why don't they study something useful?
