Oxybutynin question for users

After trying Solifenacin Succinate for 2 months at maximum dose for nocturia (overactive bladder at night) with no success, my GP has changed me to oxybutynin.

I notice some crazy side effects listed on the patient information sheet; hopefully I will not get many, but the 'heatstroke' risk one stood out for me. For those of you who exercise hard, and also use oxybutynin, how do you manage that? I use the gym once a week, twice on a good week, and I work up a sweat. I have read you need to stay hydrated and cool - my gym has air con - but what danger signs do I need to look out for?
Also, what to oxybutynin users do in very hot weather?

Hi

I used oxybutynin for a number of years and my GP told me it dehydrates you from the inside out. So it's really important to keep your fluid intake high.

I found that it really didn't do anything for me, I had more problems trying to pee (forgive the plain term) towards the end of my use of the drug. Now I make sure to stop drinking fluids about 2 to 3 hours before I go to bed. Seems to work better for me than the drug ever did.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks Munchkin, I will keep my fluids well up so, thanks for the advice. I try to drink 2-3 pints of water during the day so I will have to make sure I keep doing that.

Glad your symptom is under control. I had tried not drinking anything 5 hours prior to bed, and self-catheterising, and I was still going  so my bladder really is out of control! I am desperate now for any kind of relief from this feeling. I am hoping that it will help a bit.

Thanks again for the reply.
