Fiona,

Yes I did. My primary care doc said I had to get an appointment with a Urologist who placed a camera into my Urethra, and up into my bladder. I did not have an infection but had a stricture in my Urethra that had to be stretched. The stricture was at the base of my bladder and mimicked the urgency/frequency/burning/blood tinged urine of a bladder infection. Unfortunately this is not necessarily a one and you're done fix. I've been back two more times in a 6 month period for more stretching. I asked about a stent to hold the stricture open but the doc said it causes more problems than it fixes including actual uti's and pain. He said the best option is to self catheterize every other day to help keep the stricture open. I don't use the catheter for urination. It only needs to go into the urethra then back out.

You may or may not have the same problem but I think seeing a Urologist may be your best chance of figuring out why you experiencing the symptoms.

Good luck.

Fiona,

I have had the same if not a very similar problem. My symptoms started September 2010. I thought I had a UTI so I went to my primary care physician and the urinalysis was clean. I was up every 2 hours all night long going to the bathroom and I had an intense burning pain that was there even when I wasn't using the bathroom. I have had a cat scan, cystoscopy, several rounds of antibiotics, overactive bladder medication. I have seen a gynecologist. Everything came back normal. The only thing that seemed to take the edge off my symptoms were the antibiotics. I am now seeing a different urologist because I just wasn't getting better in the six months that I saw the first urologist. My new urologist has given me different overactive bladder medications to try. One of the theories that I have been told as to why I have these symptoms is that my bladder is going into spasms which in turn causes the burning urethra pain. Next time I go in they want to do a test to see if my bladder is emptying all the way. Maybe MS is ravaging my bladder, I don't know. My symptoms have calmed down since they started last September but they are still there. I hope this information helps you.

Hi!

The reason I ask is that back in March, I knew there was something not quite right had pain in kidney area. Doctor called but insisted on urine sample, I knew it was not my bladder something else was going on.

Anyway my urine test was clear.

I then did my own research and stumbled over candida as will produce a clear urine sample.I had Candidiasis it all made perfect sense it had invaded my whole system and have dealt with it by causing it to die off through diet and suppliments

Doctors deny candidias existance due to its antibiotic link, can also be poor diet or stress related.

Also when Doctor called she said that I was in denial of my ms. Funny now as who is in "denial", me thinks it may be Doctors .

People deny because none of it makes any sense, I'm lucky I've binned medics ideas and look for my own solutions.

I know this is an older post but I am having the same problems with having a clear urine test but it keeps feeling like I have a UTI. I just saw a urologist for the first time and he found that I am retaining urine in my bladder. After emptying completely, i still have about 5-7 ozs. of urine left in my bladder. He has discussed doing a urethral dilation to help open up my urethra to help me empty better. I was wondering if anyone else has had this procedure done and how much did it help you. I am worried that I have Candida going on in my system too because I have had 3 UTI's since being diagnosed with MS and have taken antibiotics for them all and know this can really cause Candida to run rampant in one's body. Anyone have anything to share about urethral dilation or how to cure Candida in one's body will be appreciated.

Hi,

About 20 years ago before I was diagnosed with MS, I thought my fatigue and the coating I had on my tongue at that stage may have been Candida. I found a book with a super strict diet called "It could be allergy and it can be cured". About half the book is devoted to eliminating Candida. This is a link to where it might still be available -
http://www.theartofhealing.com.au/shopp ... 1&Itemid=1

It's not a fad diet. It's actually very hard for the first month and it requires strict adherence. I dropped from 84kgs to 71kgs over 3 months. Don't plan on a social life in that period. To do the full elimination you also use Nystatin powder. It does work if eliminating Candida is the aim.

I felt quite energised in the third month but no one can live that lifestyle forever. It's a very hardcore diet.

Regards

i used to have a terrible time with uti's and dealt with candida probs since infancy. since i found and corrected my poor zinc status, uti's and candida are a thing of the past. i haven't checked out scott's diet link but i remember as a kid being put on an anti-candida diet myself. the thing about it was, the stuff i had to avoid is all stuff that just so happens to deplete zinc status. if you did bloodwork i'm willing to bet the dietary measures just allow zinc levels to rise. the diet i went on as a kid was *very* difficult for me, which just tells you what i was used to eating (tons of wheat and wheat products). when i had my absolute worst time with utis, i was really poor and my diet was essentially toast and cup a soup, instant noodles, pasta with a can of cream soup for sauce.. a recipe for big trouble. i don't know what might cause a bladder to void improperly, but if we're talking infections, zinc is a great place to start. target levels available in the regimen thread. hth.

I have my unique take on this: Insulin is extremely irritating; it is like "lye in the pipes." I think insulin is caustic to the inside of the bladder and gives the same "feeling" as a UTI, but would not reveal a bacterium when tested. I think jimmylegs told me once that there is a urine dipstick test for insulin – I have never had one. This might be a good test to request.

By the way, excess insulin DOES thicken and stiffens smooth muscles (among other places, smooth muscles surround and operate the urinary bladder – they contract to expel the urine and, as sphincter muscles, they control the "starting" and "stopping."). I assume that a change in those muscles results in a change of function.

I do not know if there is an easy test for Candida; it might be a good idea to rule that out as well.

I had the urethral dilation; I would NEVER have done it, if I had been told how badly and how many days afterwards it would BURN to urinate! If there was any benefit, it was VERY short-lived.
