Kiki – you have said that you now have diabetes, does that mean you have an endocrinologist on your team of doctors?

I am the TIMS member who believes that insulin plays a major role in my MS. So, my suggestion is that you request a "fasting blood insulin test" (the ideal result is below 3 UU/ML) IN ADDITION TO a glucose test, cortisol test, thyroid hormone tests, and all the others your doctor might consider.

Best wishes.

Here is a list of my meds, and yes I just had a fasting blood sugar, that is when they called me with the problem of the overdose of dilitan. I get to see my diabetes doc this Tuesday. I do have to say all my information is online and all I have to do is go online and get my meds delivered to my door.

Lisinopril 5mg tab one twice a day, weaning off this so now it is one in the morning and two in the afternoon.
Cholecalciferol (VIT D3) 400 UNIT TAB 5 a day
Venlafaxine HCL 75 mg tab I take two twice a day, they are also weaing me off this on to a new on.
Diazepam 5mg tab suppose to take this when I have an aura, but by the time I have an aura I have the seizure, so there is no time to take the diazapam, so I call it useless.
Naproxen 500mg tab, don't take this crap.
Citalopram Hydrobromide 40 mg tab
Phenytoin NA (MYLAN) 100MG CAP
Aspirin 81mg EC TAB
Metformin HCL 1000 mg tab
Quetiapine Fumarate 50mg tab
Multivitamin opth areds single str tab
Simvastain 80mg tab
Hydrochlorothiazide 25mt tab
Omeprazole 20mg EC cap

Kiki – I am glad to hear you will see your diabetes doctor on Tuesday. Please discuss with him the possibility that you could have insulin resistance.

Please ask for a copy of the doctor's results for each of your blood tests. "Normal" is not adequate to really know your situation. You need the actual numbers of each test result for your own file at home.

If I may ask, what was the number of your fasting blood sugar test? The fasting insulin test is a completely separate and different test; please ask the doctor to order one of those also – the ideal result would be below 3 UU/ML (I suspect that yours are higher – my first one was 12 UU/ML; not more than 9 UU/ML since. I just CAN'T get it lower.) By the way, the fasting insulin test is one of the least expensive blood tests.

I will find out Tuesday what is up with my blood sugar, but here again, I am playing my own doctor, I thought since I am so thin now that my blood sugar would be OK. But I have so much on my plate right now that diabetes kind of take a back seat at the moment to seizures. I just can't get anymore diseases, at least no incurable illness. I really thank you all for your replies, keep them coming I am checking up on all of this.

Kiki – You seem apologetic when you say, "I am playing my own doctor." But that is exactly what all of us must do to some extent. We know our own bodies best; we must work in partnership with our doctors and be our own advocate.

I am not a physician, but let me share my understanding of diabetes: Diabetes is defined as having a blood sugar level over 126.

Blood sugar normally is removed from the bloodstream by insulin, which escorts the blood sugar to the cells and opens the door, allowing the blood sugar to enter. If the cell is resistant to the insulin, the door is not allowed to open and blood sugar remains in the bloodstream.

The body detects that there is still too much blood sugar in the bloodstream; the body's answer is to pump out even more insulin and force the cells to open up. This is now the definition of "insulin resistance." I think this is what is happening in your case: Your diet brings a high blood sugar; your pancreas pumps out LOTS of insulin, but the cells are resistant and high blood sugar remains in your bloodstream defining you as diabetic.

Insulin is a caustic substance; all the extra insulin floating in your bloodstream causes damage to many body parts and functions. I suspect this excess insulin causes damage to muscles and nerves in MS; I would not be surprised if it plays a part in other "autoimmune" diseases; it may even have something to do with your other problems (maybe even seizures since insulin crosses the blood-brain barrier and is even secreted by nerves cells IN the brain).

Your doctor diagnosed you as diabetic (your blood sugar level must be over 126); if he tests and finds your fasting insulin level is greater than 3 UU/ML, I think you also meet the definition of being insulin resistant. At the moment there is no medication to fix insulin resistant; only diet (low-carb or no-carb) and exercise are proven to improve insulin resistant (making the cells "sensitive" again to insulin).

I am big into experimentation; why not try a strict diet and exercise program for several months and see if anything improves? It certainly will not hurt you. At your invitation, I "keep them (my ideas) coming." My best to you.

I run 5 miles 5 days a week and really eat healthy, and you can see what good it has done. The funny thing is I was an aerobic interstor when I was first dx. I stopped all my exercise and got heavy, than started back with healthy eating and exercising, and guess what comes calling. I wonder if the is a correlation with my weight and MS. But I have to admit that when I was bigger I had seizures than also, so maybe it is a dead end. I am trying to learn more about epilepsy, I didn't know anything about seizures, now I am becoming an expert at this illness. I don't eat a lot of meat, mostly chicken, of course never fried. I try to get a lot of vegetables into the day with a good serving of fruit. I am still going running and eat healthy, if I don't I might be a lot worst.

Google Candida and epilepsy and you will find "coping with epilepsy.com" you may find it helpful yeah! it mentions systemic candida causing more seizure, Just take a peek you may find others going through similar stuff.

Also google candida and diabetes I think you will also get a result.

Thank you so much I will look into this, with this brain tumor growing it is making things ugly. Now it is a race between the tumor and the meds, and not sure who is running the show, I do know I am not even up there in the drivers seat. I started the new seizure drug last night, lacosamide, I am supposed to be on full dosage before I cut back on the keppra slowly. I am not touching the chemo till this is worked out, interferon's cause seizures, the last shot I took of that I had three grand mals and made my tongue looks like hamburger. I tell my neuro this and he gets all kinds of pissed off, well too bad, I just can't do it in this mental and physical state, I am afraid of the consequences. If there aer spelling errors sorry about that you can see I now have an IQ of 2, and I have three degrees and two upper leve degrees, how sad that can be taken in just under a year. Oh on the last note this lacosamide is giving me heart burn and IT SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I have to tell you, I am a RN sadly, lol and also a MSW, oh yea so I studied mental illness most of my adult life. My favorites are always the sociopaths, so that is the one that I knew like the back of my hand. It wasn't until yesterday that it came to me HOLY SH*T, I have mental illness and I am a state of manic. They give me NOTHING, have to keep those seizure meds, so I am at my witts end. But I am on heavy doses of seroquel, no wonder, I am insane. I just wish they could give me something to knock me out of this hell. Thank you for all your support, and once again sorry about keep forgetting things I need to say, once again my brain is on vacation.
