On 1/18/11 i was diagnosed with rrms. my right foot had become almost numb. After being seen at the er. It was believed that i had a tumor in my spine at the t5/6 level. After.further test including more mri's and spinal. The neuro said i.have ms. The mris showef superficial lesions only a few. The brain showed inconclusive evidence. The cfs shoed banding and a high wbc. Neuro gave me Copazone which i dont have yet.
Since 11/17 i have becpme unable to walk at all. This has happened little by little but very quickly. I also have a small area of edema in my spine. I wonder is it normal to have my abilities deteriorate so fast?. Any input we be greatly appriciated.

Welcome,Chiawoo.

You asked,
I wonder is it normal to have my abilities deteriorate so fast?
There is no "normal" course for MS; one person can have one set of symptoms, another person quite a different set; one person can deteriorate quickly, another person may get back 100% after a flareup. This is an unpredictable disease.

Many people choose to use the approved medications; some of us have tried them, without success, and now opt for a treatment of diet and exercise (especially after reading Dr. Wahls' dramatic story, http://www.TerryWahls.org)

I encourage you to assemble a medical team of physicians (GP, neurologist, maybe even an endocrinologist) you feel comfortable working with. My best to you.

Hi

Just over a year ago I was in the same position as you. Everything seemed hopeless. In my case it was predominantly Optic Neuritis.

My advice (and Im not a Clinician) is not to pussy foot around, accept you have a chronic incurable disease and resolve to fight it

As a relatively easy starting point;

Start taking Vitamin D (D3) at least 5000iu, more if you can take it
Take at least 600mg of Magnesium a day to balance calcium uptake
15-25mg of zinc - help boost uric acid cycle
B complex and B12 in particular
Omega 3 oils - dont pussy foot around - you need at least 6 grams of fish oils a day. Avoild veggie Omega 3's - they are pretty much useless for most humans
Throw in a good multivitamin ideally iron free.

Research anti oxidants - resveratrol, Quercetin

Diet

Cut down or ideally cut out wheat, saturated fat, dairy, and refined sugars - all pro inflammatory and do a lot of the damage in MS

Your diet should be rich in oily fish, white fish, poultry, organ meats, a little lean red meat, olive oil, loads of veg - particularly leafy greens and some fruit and nuts.

Medications;

My advice is for the time being take the DMDs if offered as your immediate priority is to get the immune system back under control.

And;

If you smoke - dont plan to stop tomorrow or next week. Stop today and use whatever replacement therapy you need. I would also avoid second hand smoke, wood smoke, bbq and deeply grilled foods due to the free radical load this will add to your system.

Green tea is very good - calms down the immune system

As other's have said, there is no "normal" with this disease, but if you have RRMS, there is a good chance that it will go into remission and you will get most if not all of that functionality back. I would also recommend looking at the Terry Wahls diet, as she seems to have some real good advice based off of her own experience. It hits everyone differently and in difficult ways. Just don't stop trying to fight it and try to keep your muscles built up as best as possible. Exercise as soon as you are possibly able to do so.

I would double check you have MS and not a syrinx or something......this can cause edema and issues.

my 1st mri indicated the possibility of a syrinx and tumor, the image was not clear. upon second set of (clearer) imaging, they said it was edema. idk, i go for another opinion of the image tomorrow. If only someone else had a similar story, i would be more accepting of the dx.
