Help

Hi
I have been a member since last year but have not posted much although do look at what is happening on here daily - best MS site by far.
I was diagnosed in march 2011 after suspected carpal tunnel syndrome which now turns out to be aggressive RRMS, since then I have become progressively worse, I am less than 25% of the man I was, I can just about walk unaided and have many other symptoms including chronic fatigue, I find it hard to believe that all this has happened within a year, is this possible ?
Two years prior to initial symptoms the place I work introduced Lithium, I melt various metals in a small foundry, one particular alloy process requires raw Lithium sticks to be plunged into molten metal of 1140 °C, the fume used to get everywhere although I was provided with a paper face mask!
I can't help but think this may have something to do with my condition as I used to become light headed whenever I used it, if anyone could help me in regards to the potential harm of toxic lithium fume I would be most great full, I couldn't say how much I may have consumed as it was over such a long period.
Sorry for the long post plus I'm not sure if I have posted on the right board !!
I have been on Tysabri for 8 months to no avail.

Thanks

Zac

Kind of sounds like your company is facing a huge liability issue here if all they provided was a paper mask. I would think the EPA rules would require a full face respirator and a lot of other safety and ventalition equipment to be in place.

But, while I would suspect it would be easy to get your company into some big trouble if you report this to the EPA (and you probably should report them to help ensure the safety of others), proving their action caused your MS will be difficult. You can see an attorney to discuss your options.

I have blood results that were taken 6 months after the last time I used lithium which still showed lithium in my in my blood, although it was at an excepted level my GP said a specialist could possibly calculate what the levels might have been, i didn't have any tests to see what may have been absorbed into tissue though.

a few yrs. back i had hair testing and urine testing. i was very high in aluminum and cadium amongst others. i owned a scrap yard and batteries and all that good stuff.

i think if you find a good holistic dr.to test. i did intravenous chelation for quite a while and it was coming down. but i broke my leg and just never got back. and it was pricey. besides my symptoms are more spinal issues.

but there was a guy there that was in very bad shape when starting. he too got an overload of something toxic at his work place and regular dr.'s said his blood work was within limits. he said he almost gave up and then tried this. he said it saved his life basically. he was a mess and a few neuro.'s were throwing the mighty ms word at him. also, if the holistic dr. is reputable they can and will go to bat for you if needed in court.

remember, we are still individuals and just because you got a diag. of ms and thrown into the ms box doesn't mean all your symptoms can be blamed on the word ms. nothing is in stone. follow your gut feelings.

Thanks Guys,
Your advise has given me much to chew over, I am not unrealistic or naiev but continue to be optimistic and positive, I am still officially employed by the company (26yrs) although I have been out for a year and they cant seem to be able to do enough for me?
I will defiantly look into seeing a holistic Dr though.

Many thanks

A hair elements test would show your past exposure. Check the sample report at Doctor's Data to make sure that it includes lithium. It's a test that your doctor could order for you.
