Thanks that is interesting I am actually taking magnesium for the rest of the week anyway so either way it will be interesting to see if it helps.

I went to the doctor today on the way my legs and arms started feeling really light and my eyes were prickling again. When I got there the doc took my blood pressure which was fine. He told me he had sent a referral to the neurologist and hopefully they contact me soon. He said in the meantime I might have this thing that lactating cows get which is from low magnesium & calcium so he has prescribed me that and told me to drink diet lemonade to keep salt electrolytes up. I also asked whether it could be anxiety even though I don't feel anxious I keep getting this heavy feeling every now and then like someone sitting on my chest so he took my blood pressure again to see if it was up and I was feeling really light like a feather. My bp was really low so he told me to eat liquorish and get some liquorish tea. I left feeling super positive and happy and all like 'silly me its just low bp' I was so happy

So I got home had the liquorish, magnesium & lemonade I did loose the really light sensation but was still numb and disorientated but was thinking maybe it is just low bp or low magnesium when I had another dizzy spell. The dizzy faint feeling I get is much different from the lightness I was feeling earlier and I knew right away that bp wasn't the problem it was just caused by whatevers wrong with me.

Anyway half an hour later I had another dizzy spell and then kept having them and was left feeling so numb & disorientated. I also had really bad diarrhea (sorry) I know this isn't bp or anxiety the doctor has check my thyroid and sugar. Im running out of ideas of what could wrong. Im scared that going to have a dizzy spell and not recover. I hope it is something simple and I hope I get some answers soon and I hope I have a letter from the neurologist tomorrow. I can't bear this for much longer. Though I appreciated the dieting advice I didn't take it because I thought I would just wait and see what happens but Im going to do it now because I just want this whatever it is to be over... I wish someone could tell me what was wrong.

Because I am breastfeeding I need to keep all my nutrients etc up are there any vitamins etc that are bad? because I was going to stick to only fish, oil fish, chicken and greens but I thought I would get a breastfeeding/pregnancy vitamin supplement too would that be okay? or are there certain vitamins I need to avoid? are there any fruits I need to avoid?
It had vitamins B1,2,3,5,6,12 C, D3, E,H Folic Acid, calcium, iron, phosphorus, copper, manganese, zinc & iodine.
I really want to get better this is a nightmare.
Is there a limit to green tea intake? can I drink anything else hot? I love hot drinks.

now im spamming my own post but interestingly enough I googled whether it was safe to take vitamin d supplements whilst breastfeeding and there is actually a controversy as to whether it is necessary to take them to prevent vitamin d deficiency so i guess either way it will be good for me to take it :)

Ms can really mess with your bowels, but then so can stress. If it were me I think I'd hedge my bets and forgo the licorice and diet drinks.

sugar and just about all fruit light me up. leg pain, muscle stiffness, eye problems, dizziness. oddly though bananas seem ok. i also seem to get away with eating kettle brand sea salt chips. lol. but not lays. maybe the different oils they use. it's hard at first to omit all the things you've been used to eating from your diet, but for me it was a lifesaver. I had gotten to the point before my diet that I was actually considering how I'd make my exit if I deteriorated past a certain point.

I've been playing around a little with vitamins. slowly. feel so good tho kinda scared of going backwards. b-complex every two days seems to do wonders for my energy. actually have trouble falling asleep on the days i take it.

I drink a little green tea myself with no ill effects. but without sugar. so it's not very appealing.

mikeyjinx what time of day do you take the b-complex?

melissa i have to go to sleep or i'd spend more time but for now..

1. what form of magnesium are you on? if it's not magnesium glycinate, but a less soluble form such as oxide or citrate, that would explain your diarrhea.

2. a breatsfeeding mom's supplement is a great idea. if you have a link to a specific product i can check amounts and forms and give you some feedback if you like.

3. green tea has been shown to be beneficial when study participants consumed minimum 3c. per day. go nuts :)

4. now that i know you are a new mom, and i read about these fun cognitive times you're having, even the left-right aspect, i'm getting a red flag on zinc status too.

5. if you can request blood tests, it's a great idea. i can give you a list of things to ask for if you want.

generally, if you're interested in nutrition, you might like to read some of the links in my signature below.

k then i don't have anything clever to offer right off the bat. i know when ppl take high dose b12 in the morning it can mess with circadian rhythm, sleep patterns. maybe a magnesium glycinate will help calm things down :)

Hi thanks for your help
the magnesium just says it has magnesium phosphate and potassium phosphate? but my bowels went weak and I had to go everytime I got dizzy spell.
http://www.elevit.com.au/about-elevit/b ... gredients/ is the supplement for breastfeeding I was talking about
Did you mean I should take zinc?
Thanks I will read your links I have started by elimating tea, coffee, milk, but to start with am focussing on eating as well as I can without specifically following the ms rule. I still eat bread, bran, fruit and stuff. I figured it would be best to just do my best for this week and maybe get a bit more intense on it next week if Im still not better.
I went to a cranial osteopath yesterday it didn't seem to do much but it felt nice and with the dieting even though im numb, confused and still having dizzy spell things my overall wellbeing is feeling better and I am feel more positive about getting through this. Maybe this is just a wakeup call to cut out all the tea, coffee, soda and chocolate I have too much of. I am a slim person so I have a bit of trouble with self control when it comes to food.
A list of blood test would be helpful though they may make my doctor angry I could try just requesting them from the lab. I forgot to ask him for a list of my results but am seeing him again tomorrow. I still haven't heard from the neurologist.

hi there no probs :)
mag and potassium are a good combo but mag phosphate is an inorganic salt and it's listed with magnesium oxide which while high in elemental magnesium, is still difficult to absorb and quite frankly gives me the trots :S although i have not tried mag phosphate myself.
magnesium glycinate is an organic salt chelate, and so is magnesium citrate. i have tried both and in terms of absorption i found glycinate way better, although i still use both products but for different reasons.

as for the supplement, those amounts are negligible and i don't see anything terrible listed - even though they are probably not using the right vit E in that one, the amount is sooo low. here's my regular multi vitamin so you can compare: http://www.progressivenutritional.com/e ... women.html (you have to click on the ingredients tab to see the detailed list)

as for zinc i was suggesting you may have depleted levels. a test could be good. if you can, see if the doc will go for these tests:

serum vitamin d3 (the 25(OH)D3 form) nmol/L
serum magnesium mmol/L
serum zinc umol/L
serum copper umol/L
serum vitamin b12 pmol/L

that should be a good start :)

if doc won't go for all that, try for serum zinc and serum magnesium.

anyway yes i think taking zinc is probably needed. (but with certain things, i am just not keen on ppl 'flying blind' and supplementing without having a handle on their levels).

all those foods you listed are solid magnesium depleters... you can cut down but cheat a little, as long as you can get your hands on a proper magnesium supplement that won't send you running for the loo!

hth :)

Thank for all your help I will try the things you suggested and see if the doctor will do those tests.

Ive just gotten another one of these dizzy spell things and have noticed some new things whatever is happening to me is happening in waves leaving me numb and dizzy most of the time but when I get a wave I get a lot more numb & disorientated, usually have a dizzy spell, I get popping in my chest and stomach which I guess could be muscle spasms, my bowels get week, my blood pressure got low with the last one but I am trying to keep it up so Im not sure if that would happen every time, and I get pain in my stomach, I get extremely confused and mentally impaired, and just now a new symptom got add which was pain in my sciatic nerve and in my funny bone nerve. I also I get hot and cold and electric shocks, prickling, biting all over my body (I get all three feelings and they all feel different).. once it starts it usually lasts for the rest of the day/night and when its gone I am numb on my left and a little on my right and am disorientated.

You need a fasting blood sugar test, much more accurate than a finer prick: http://www.labtestsonline.org.uk/unders ... e/tab/test

Turns out im not seeing the doctor today he said the bloodtests show I have abnormally high calcium levels the funny thing is that the other day he took the blood test and then prescribed me calcium tablets in case I had milk fever so I have to stop taking them and cut milk out of my diet which I have already done. Im having a blood test in a week and then see how things go. Fingers crossed that is all that is wrong though because I just had a baby and am breastfeeding my calcium should be low so this is weird

FWIW stay off the diet lemonade which is likely laced with a potent neurotoxin aspartame used as a sweetener. Id stick to mineral water for electrolytes and freshly squeezed fruit juices (preserved juices have plenty of methanol in them too)

My two cents: I think the light or dizzy sensation is the result of a high insulin level in your blood stream. This is insulin shock. You felt that you lost the sensation when you got home and had LIQUORISH,… And LEMONADE. One or both of these items contain sugar. Just as a diabetic can become unconscious in diabetic shock, when there is too much blood sugar in his bloodstream and insulin is administered to overcome this; he can also be unconscious from insulin shock, when there is too much insulin in his bloodstream, a source of sugar (maybe a piece of candy) is given to balance the situation.

But balance is not maintained long-term – insulin is produced in response to the sugar; then when insulin is high again, sugar is needed to balance it again. The problem is the pancreas always produces more than enough insulin necessary for the sugar; COMPLEX carbohydrates will convert to sugar more slowly and slow the seesaw effect.

Melissa, try to avoid refined sugar and sweeteners, even artificial sweeteners (they trigger insulin production, too) and also avoid simple, refined carbohydrates (they convert quickly to sugar in the bloodstream). Keep a journal of what you eat and whether or not you get one of these spells. (Or if you are up for an experiment, eat some candy, cookies, cakes, and see if you can bring on one of these spells.) I also encourage you to ask your doctor for a "fasting blood insulin test," especially if you experience one of these spells in his presence.
